We are currently looking for a Purchasing Manager to join our team in Chicago Heights, Illinois.


PURPOSE OF POSITION

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager and indirectly to the VP Purchasing, the Purchasing Manager is responsible to ensure that all goods and services required by the assigned production plant(s) are procured in time to meet production schedules, with good quality, at the lowest total cost, and in accordance with Corporate Sourcing Strategies.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

SAFETY:

  • Comply with and enforces all Nortrak safety policies and regulations.
  • Demonstrates safety leadership when out in plants.

QUALITY:

  • Monitor Supplier Quality (CARs & PPM); Forward CAR's to suppliers and ensure CA Plans are returned by suppliers as required.
  • Maintain Source List and Info Records (prices, lead-times, etc.) in SAP.
  • Develop and oversee 3rd party manufacturing capabilities to supplement in-house manufacturing requirements.

ON-TIME DELIVERY:

  • Drive Supplier On-time Delivery Performance; Drive Corrective Action Plans with poor performing suppliers.
  • Review MRP list daily for new purchase requirements or changes to existing orders.
  • Support Plant Production Planning (Material Availability, Make vs. Buy decisions).
  • Review projects to confirm BOM's are released and demand is in SAP; Follow-up with Production Planning as required.
  • Coordinate review of production schedules with Production Planner to identify any materials requiring expedite.
  • Contact Suppliers to expedite orders; track status; communicate internally.
  • Provide future requirements forecasts to Suppliers (or Purchasing Team Lead Buyer) as needed.

COST:

  • Drive Supplier Cost Savings on plant specific goods & services.
  • Issue PO's to suppliers for Direct (Production) Material.
  • Issue PO's to suppliers for Indirect (MRO/Consumables) Material; Review vending invoices for accuracy.
  • Track supplier PO Acknowledgements and maintain delivery dates in SAP.
  • Quote and source new material/services (in accordance to Corporate Sourcing Strategy, if applicable).
  • Monitor opportunities to use stock from other plants / issue STO's.
  • Provide cost and lead-time information to Sales/Central Estimating as necessary.

PEOPLE:

  • Facilitate effective and respectful communication among project stakeholders, including customers, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to achieve company goals.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers.
  • Resolve Pricing/Invoicing/Receiving Issues affecting payment to suppliers.
  • Support Setting of Standard Costs in SAP.
  • Support Plant with Inventory Accuracy (Cycle Counting, Annual Physical, Resolving Issues).
  • Establish and maintain appropriate raw material safety stock levels in SAP to support the Plant's production requirements, desired finished good & WIP safety stock levels, and inventory management goals (Inventory $, Inventory Turns): Establish programs with suppliers to reduce raw material inventory (i.e. Consignment/VMI, JIT).
  • Coordinate the implementation of supplier sourcing changes (FAIR's, plant specific requirements, etc.).
  • Support Purchasing Team with Developing Corporate Sourcing Strategies.
  • Lead the development of Nortrak Sourcing Strategy for assigned commodities.

ENVIRONMENTAL:

  • Adhere to Nortrak's Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.

QUALITIFCATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of related field experience (Purchasing, Sales/Marketing, Business, Materials Management/Logistics, etc.).

FIELD OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong knowledge in using ERP systems such as SAP, JD Edwards, or Oracle.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc).
  • Experience with Commodity Management, Project Management, and Contract Negotiations is highly desired.
  • ISM Certification (CPM, CPSM) or APICS Certification (CSCP) is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to be a Team Player / Team Leader.
  • Exhibit strong and effective verbal and negotiation skills.
  • Must be customer focused, details oriented and results oriented.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

PHYSCIAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or climbing.
  • Must be able to lift or handle up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasional travel may be required which includes walking, standing, sitting and driving from short to long periods of time.
