RESPONSIBILITIES:

Kforce has a client in Carlsbad, CA that is seeking a Software Upgrade Engineer to work on the technology refresh of software that supports ground systems.

Summary:
Working in conjunction with application teams, we are rebuilding old legacy end-of-life systems onto new operating systems with updated software. We need a seasoned engineer who has experience uplifting legacy systems without re-architecting them. The Software Upgrade Engineer will be replacing RHEL 5, and RHEL/CentOS 6 systems with RHEL/CentOS 7 systems. Systems will be both virtual and physical and primarily configured with Puppet.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in related field and/or 8 equivalent years of experience


• Strong RHEL/CentOS administration skills, user management experience


• Expertise with the install/upgrade of new Linux OS releases, configure, upgrade, patch, and secure servers along with performance tuning, and resource optimization


• Experience writing Puppet manifests


• Experience building servers with Kickstart and PXE boot


• Experience with VMware administration, understanding of vSphere, vSAN


• Background with network routers and firewalls with an understanding of TCP/IP, Active Directory, NTP, DNS, DHCP and network traffic packet captures


• Ability to write customer-facing documentation and procedures, create, maintain and update documentation


• Ability to independently solve technical problems and make engineering choices with light guidance

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
