Job Description:

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Corporate Sustainability & Climate Change to join our growing corporate sustainability and climate change advisory services practice in one of our offices across North America.

In this role, you will be a key contributor to a team developing and growing ERM’s corporate sustainability and climate change business, with a particular focus on decarbonization and clean energy. ERM delivers a wide range of climate change services including climate risk analysis and reporting, strategy development, policy and regulatory analysis, target setting, and benchmarking. We help clients, including global companies, electric and natural gas utilities, and financial institutions develop and implement climate change programs across a broad range of industry sectors and contribute to climate and clean energy policy development.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional looking to play a key role working with an expert consulting team on leading-edge climate advisory projects for Fortune 500 and privately held clients. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Managing Clients and Projects


  • Demonstrates expertise in the evaluation of climate and clean energy policy; climate change risks and opportunities associated with corporate and operational decarbonization; and conducting decarbonization forecasts and technical analyses.

  • Helps clients with industrial and commercial energy and climate-related challenges including evaluation of alternative fuel and advanced technologies; management of in-use demonstration programs; technical, operational, and economic analysis to evaluate new business cases; and address policy requirements to integrate climate-solutions.

  • Works with leading electric utilities and industries collaborating to address key market, regulatory and technical factors affecting the growth of the market for clean energy transition.

  • Supports development of climate change strategy, action planning, and/or modeling of and setting science-based targets.

  • Thinks strategically in order to influence decision-makers and outcomes.

  • Distills complexity from detail to effectively coach colleagues to deliver high-quality outputs.

  • Delivers strong project management and oversight through the project lifecycle, including scoping, budget, and delivery.

  • Provides strong analytical skills, excellent writing and presentation skills, and a mastery of impactful client communication.

  • Builds strong and trusted relationships with clients and/or business partners

Teamwork and Organization


  • Demonstrates strong people management skills; particularly the ability to support, coach and celebrate others in order to advance employee engagement and achieve results.

  • Mentors junior staff in the planning and execution of projects, and in directing or conducting independent technical reviews of deliverable work products.

  • Manages a team of consultants.

  • Identifies, evaluates, cultivates, and manages partnerships and relationships with clients, external stakeholders, and key opinion leaders.

Business Development Activities


  • Supports Account Management teams in meeting sales goals.

  • Supports new business development campaigns and proposals.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor’s degree required, with Master’s degree (preferred) in engineering, economics, policy, law, or basic/applied science (such as physics, chemistry, material sciences, environmental science, earth sciences, etc.).

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in a related field, such as consultancy, private sector (e.g., clean energy, advanced transportation, corporate strategy), or environmental policy.

  • A thorough understanding of technical, economic, policy and market challenges and opportunities associated with the low carbon energy transition as it relates to climate solutions.

  • Experience of line management and/or contributing to the professional development of other teammates.

For the Principal Consultant, Corporate Sustainability & Climate Change position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $120,638 – $143,201 USD.  An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above.  This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
