Position Description:

Lead and manage the operations of Clinton product recovery department. The Director is responsible for the activities to optimize the AH product recovery processes and systems, including safety, compliance, cost management, energy efficiency and process control issues. Incumbent is responsible for direct supervision of 8-10 employees and has a total staff of approximately 30 employees.

Minimum Qualification (education, experience and/or training, required certifications):


  • General knowledge of unit operations and current in Good Manufacturing Practices is required. 

  • Proven track record of leadership assignments in a regulated, manufacturing environment.

  • Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, writing) with all levels of personnel throughout the site.

  • Recognized leadership skills in project administration and other areas of team activity (cross-functional team leadership, participation, etc.).

  • Must have excellent people skills, especially mentoring/coaching. 

  • Ability to solve problems using data and make decisions independently.

  • BS or MS in a technical discipline (i.e., engineering or chemistry) or equivalent work experience.

  • 5+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Preferences:


  • Must have good computer skills and understand how to effectively use SAP, MS Outlook, CAPA event/change management and software programs such as Word, Excel, etc.

Functions, Duties, Tasks:

Safety & Environmental


  • Establish a culture of Safety First and injurie prevention.

  • Enhance safety awareness and accountability within the product recovery staff. 

  • Establish staff ownership of ‘Safety Beliefs’.

  • Strive for continuous improvement in safety.

  • Ensure safety is an integral part of each task performed in product recovery.

  • Manage certain aspects of the environmental control, including but not limited to, spill capture, storm water, land applications and wastewater treatment plant.

Quality


  • Work with the quality unit to assure GMP requirements are fully integrated into daily work activities.

  • Ensure understanding throughout recovery operations of applicable GMPs. Oversee compliance to established policies and procedures.

  • Ensure that proper and thorough documentation and verification is maintained.

  • Evaluate management quality systems as they apply to recovery operations and implement improvements as needed.

  • Investigate the root cause of deviations and quality system failures. 

  • Implement corrective and/or preventive actions to address the root causes of failures and eliminate recurrences.

Developing People


  • Ensure Performance Management Plans are developed for each direct report and for the entire department.

  • Conduct interim and year-end reviews for direct reports.

  • Provide quality coaching and mentoring.

  • Provide career counseling.

  • Develop and expand the skill sets of departmental personnel through classroom and on the job training/cross training.

  • Responsible for any HR issues.

  • Further enhance the diversity of the recovery workforce through future job fill actions.

Manage the Business


  • Develop and manage annual product recovery business plans (headcount/expenses/capacity allocation).

  • Develop and manage capital plan and take responsibility for on schedule completion of maintenance processes. 

  • Provide leadership for establishing and reaching objectives such as production goals, supply chain certification, and asset utilization. 

  • Identify opportunities for optimizing organization’s effectiveness. 

  • Collaborate with quality and TS/MS leadership to ensure that operations are in a continual state of compliance and improvement.

Reliability/Capability


  • Support animal health business unit objectives by aligning department goals and objectives. 

  • Establish process and quality indicators for all services provided and continue sponsorship of process teams to assure operations are in control and capable. 

  • Evaluate product recovery’s performance vs. customer requirements and make adjustments to priorities as appropriate. 

Lean/Productivity


  • Build on capable and in control processes to drive continuous improvement within product recovery. 

  • Utilize Lean manufacturing concepts and tools to improve the efficiency of people, equipment, and processes. 

  • Evaluate past performance and leading indicators to identify opportunities to improve departmental results in terms of cost and productivity.

Other Information:

  • This position is 8-hour days but is responsible for 24-hour operation.
