Job Purpose:  The College of Business Administration at Winthrop University is seeking a full-time non-tenure-track Instructor of Computer Science to teach undergraduate courses for majors and non-majors.  The BS in Computer Science degree is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.  The BS in Business Administration, including the Computer Information Systems concentration, is accredited by AACSB International.  The department also offers a BS in Web Design and a BS in Cybersecurity.  The department's general education technology course, CSCI 101, is one of the most popular courses on our campus.  This faculty position will primarily support entry-level courses in those degree programs and some advanced courses based on the faculty member's expertise.  For more information about the college, please see http://www.winthrop.edu/cba.



Major Responsibilities:



  • Prepare and teach undergraduate courses for computing majors and non-majors using both face-to-face and online platforms

  • Administer aspects of the CSCI 101 lab courses, such as course content design and supervision of student tutors

  • Assist with curriculum development, accreditation, program planning, student recruitment and academic advising

  • Support institutional mission by participating in various service activities for the program, department, college, and university

Qualifications:



Required Qualifications:



  • M.S. in Computer Science or closely related field

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching our diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of best practices in online teaching and learning for undergraduates

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at the department, college, and university levels



Preferred Qualifications:



  • 3-5 years teaching undergraduate computer science courses preferred; candidates who have taught CSCI101 lab courses will receive priority consideration

  • At least three years' experience developing IT or software within the academic or private sector; preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of data science and data security

  • Experience with curriculum development, course design, and assessment of student learning outcomes

  • Demonstrated understanding of effective online instructional practices, particularly using blackboard course learning management systems

  • Evidence of significant engagement in professional service

  • Experience with Microsoft Certificate Programs




Application Instructions:



Employment Conditions:  A nine-month, full-time, non-tenure track appointment with faculty rank. The teaching load is 12 credits in both Fall and Spring.  Salary is competitive and dependent on academic qualifications and work experience.



Work Environment: This position requires daily contact with students, faculty, and staff on campus.
