  • $90,000+ Commensurate with Experience, 9-month contract, Exempt

Purpose of Position

The University of North Dakota College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines (CNPD), which is comprised of the departments of Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Social Work, seeks a full-time, non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor who will be appointed as the Psych-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track Director.


The mission of the College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines (CNPD) is to provide excellent and collaborative education, scholarship and service to advance human well-being for all, with an emphasis on rural and underserved populations. The College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines offers innovative online educational programs, a simulation laboratory, and a supportive student environment for both face-to-face and distance learning. Our federally funded Recruitment and Retention of American Indians into Nursing (RAIN) Program has successfully recruited, retained and graduated 256 BSN, 85 MS, and 3 DNP prepared American Indian nurses. The College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines highly values diversity in our faculty, students and staff at all levels of instructional support.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teaching and Advising Students in the PMHNP track (includes advising independent study projects). Potential courses to be taught include:

    • NURS 538 Psychiatric Diagnostic Reasoning

    • NURS 583 Individual Therapy

    • NURS 584 Group and Family Therapy

    • NURS 564 Psychopharmacology

    • NURS 588 Management of Psychopathology I

    • NURS 589 Management of Psychopathology II

    • NURS 598 Advanced Clinical Practicum



  • Serve as Track Director for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track

    • The director for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track has primary responsibility to provide leadership for the overall planning, organization, and evaluation of the PMHNP Program.

    • This faculty member works collaboratively with administrators and faculty in assuring the provision of a high-quality academic program.

    • The Graduate Track Director of the PMHNP track is a member of the Nursing Graduate Council.

    • The director is under the supervision of the Chair of the Graduate Nursing Department and is responsible for assuring that standards and policies of the School of Graduate Studies are met.



  • Service to the University, College and/or Department

    • Specific duties will be coordinated with the department chair.

Minimum Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Nursing

  • Certified as a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner across the lifespan

  • Unencumbered nursing license

  • Ability to obtain license in ND and other states as required

  • Current clinical experience as a PMHNP

  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
