Position Summary:

Director, Christopher Art Gallery, plans and implements all exhibitions in the art gallery. Works directly with artists and other external and internal personnel to select, install, publicize and document all exhibits.


Reporting Relationship:

Direct reporting relationship to the Vice President, External Affairs.


Essential Responsibilities:



  • Develops the annual gallery calendar of exhibits of approximately eight shows.






  • Conceives, plans and executes all exhibits, including an annual juried exhibition; curates exhibits or selects guest curators or jurors as appropriate. Content must be appropriate for the College audience and community and approved by College administration.





  • Coordinates three annual exhibits of student work in conjunction with the PSC art faculty.





  • Communicates directly with artists to complete exhibition agreements, consignments sheets, and documentation such as artist statement and exhibition history.





  • Safely handles all artwork during the exhibition process; receives delivered work, unpacks shipped work, places exhibit and returns/repacks work for shipment.





  • Responsible for installation of exhibit; prepares works for installation, retrieves and prepares pedestals as needed, schedules installation and assists installer, cleans and labels work, schedules cleaning by custodial staff, etc.





  • Prepares all collateral materials working with various PSC departments including press release, poster, postcard, Webpage, gallery program, wall cards, insurance list, visitor count sheet, mailing lists, sign in sheets, etc.





  • Works with the Foundation office to plan artist receptions and to complete any paperwork related to art sales and insurance claims.





  • Selects, trains and supervises gallery aides; develops and communicates aide schedule to Campus & Public Safety and other offices on campus.





  • Maintains gallery supplies such as frames, lights, installation supplies, etc.





  • Provides assistance to the public and college community as necessary, arranging gallery visits and answering all inquiries regarding exhibition opportunities and exhibits.





  • Represents the College at PSC gallery receptions and other community art events.








Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Art, Communications, Business Administration, or appropriate discipline.






  • Experience working in an art gallery, museum, or other visual arts organization.





  • Experience handling fine art.





  • Strong organizational skills.





  • Ability to work independently.





  • The interpersonal skills necessary to work with artists, college personnel and the public.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in Art, Communications, Business Administration, or an appropriate discipline.






  • Experience curating public exhibitions.





  • Work experience in a college or university gallery or museum.


Anticipated Work Hours and Days:

Flexible, up to 19 hours per week


Salary:

45.09 per hour
