Working Hours:

Working hours for this position consist of a 7.5 hour period Monday through Friday exclusive of a 1/2 or 1 hour lunch. Specific work hours to be agreed upon by the supervisor and employee prior to the onset of employment.

Summary:

The Assistant Director of Institutional Research plays a pivotal role in advancing the community college's mission by providing comprehensive research, analysis, and reporting services. This position supports institutional decision-making, policy development, and strategic planning initiatives by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to student outcomes, enrollment trends, program effectiveness, and institutional effectiveness. Conducts special projects as directed by the Dean of Assessment, Research, and Planning.

Critical Success Factors:

* Understand the SIS database table structure and relationships


* Understand and assist in the completion of the state and federal reporting requirements


* Understand and assist in the completion of the external benchmarking reports


* Develop Power BI dashboards for use across the college


* Become familiar with the college's professional culture

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Gather and maintain data related to student enrollment, retention, graduation, and other relevant metrics.

  2. Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.

  3. Collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate and timely data collection.

  4. Prepare and present research findings, reports, and presentations to senior leadership, faculty, and staff.

  5. Develop dashboards and visualizations to facilitate data-driven decision-making.

  6. Respond to ad-hoc data requests from internal and external stakeholders.

  7. Assist in the development and implementation of institutional strategic plans and initiatives.

  8. Provide data and analysis to support accreditation processes and institutional effectiveness evaluations.

  9. Prepare reports to ensure compliance with state, federal, and accreditation reporting requirements.

  10. Assist in the development and review of institutional policies and procedures based on research findings.

  11. collaborate with academic departments, student services, and administrative units to support data-informed decision-making.

  12. Engage with external agencies, consortia, and organizations to benchmark and share best practices.

  13. Stay current on trends, methodologies, and best practices in institutional research and higher education.

  14. Participate in professional development activities, conferences, and workshops.

  15. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:


Required:



  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with upper division coursework in statistical and research techniques

  2. Three (3) years' experience in institutional research or related field

  3. Advanced database querying skills using SQL (structured query language)

  4. Advanced skill and experience with Statistical, Word Processing, Spreadsheet, and data visualization software

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have advanced database querying skills using SQL (structured query language), and have advanced knowledge of Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software, Statistical software, and data visualization software.

Communication Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply Boolean logic.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
