Meet the team:



  • This role open to hire remote.

  • Within the R&D Software Architecture team, this engineer/architect will work with marketing as well as firmware, data, software, and mobile app engineering subject matter experts to define architecture as well as define and guide the process of architecture development, and software development.

  • You will need to use sound and proven systems engineering principles, best practices and concepts in order to capture and develop technology and product requirements from internal and external stakeholders, understand and quantify product use conditions, support the design of software architectures, identify/manage product interfaces, resolve/optimize tradeoffs between conflicting requirements, lead technology ideation, proof of concept, and down-selection activities, facilitate communication between functional teams, and plan/execute subsystem and system integration testing and verification.


  • This engineer may also lead or support activities to understand the current and future needs of our customers and our business, explore and evaluate new technologies and concepts for meeting those needs, and rapidly demonstrate feasibility of such technologies through rigorous modeling, analysis, prototyping, experimentation, and other risk identification and mitigation activities.

  • Working as a member of a technology team, this engineer will collaborate and communicate with company management, marketing, quality assurance, alliance partners and other departments and vendors. This engineer is also expected to serve as an authority and advocate for the effective and consistent application of Software Architecture across intra-departmental groups and processes.

  • Provides input on direction for key strategic decisions relating to technology and products Identifies technology directions which can accelerate product development and provide competitive advantages Architects and advises on technical issues of a complex systems

  • Communicates project technical details and issues to management Expert in technology in their area of expertise and independently suggests or develops new techniques and procedures to improve design process and product

  • Exhibits a high degree of diligence and enforces team standards Identify customer, business needs, and use conditions and translate those needs into software architecture pattern that will fulfill the needs

  • Define, resolve, manage, and/or optimize tradeoffs between conflicting requirements

  • Design new software architectures and identify/manage associated interfaces Identify, track, and actively reduce technical, project, and business risks

  • Understand regulatory standards for medical equipment and develop strategies and plans for implementing them within technology development and product commercialization efforts

  • Support subsystem and system integration testing Independently plan, manage and prioritize tasks/projects, track progress toward overall goals, and provide periodic updates to management

  • Participate on technology and development teams by acquiring knowledge of product function and use conditions and contribute to the design reviews through defining and managing requirements, identifying issues, and recommending design improvements

  • Appropriately apply technical knowledge and systems engineering tools/methodologies to drive program activities and reduce risk

  • Contribute to advancing the software engineering practice at Dexcom by identifying and implementing best-in-class tools/techniques/methods Take a direct lead technical role on certain high priority or challenging technology, process, or test efforts when the needs of the business so dictate

  • Take on various leadership responsibilities, as delegated by management, such as providing direction, mentoring, and technical guidance of development efforts.

Experience and Education



• Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 13+ years related experience or a Master's degree and 8+ years equivalent industry experience of a PhD and 5+ years of experience



Remote Workplace:



• Your location will be a home office; you are not required to live within commuting distance of your assigned Dexcom site (typically 75 miles/120km). If you reside within commuting distance of a Dexcom site (typically 75 miles/120km) a hybrid working environment may be available. Ask about our Flex workplace option.
