Barge Design Solutions is actively seeking a Transportation Planner to join our dynamic Urban Planning and Design Division in Nashville, TN. This role demands a visionary planner adept at crafting integrated, multimodal transportation systems that foster safe, efficient movement of people and goods across diverse communities and public spaces.

As a Key Player in Our Team:

You will use your innovative thinking, strong design, analytical and communication skills to collaborate with a diverse team comprising urban planners, landscape architects, traffic engineers, and civil engineers, to ignite impactful change in the transportation landscape. You will support enhancing transportation networks while considering land use, market dynamics, connectivity, and community preferences, delivering initiatives varying in scale from regional plans to complete streets and low-stress bikeway projects. Joining our dynamic team, you will:



  • Passionately Collaborate: Engage in public outreach initiatives, facilitating community involvement in transportation planning processes. Foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including advocacy groups and governmental agencies.


  • Contribute Creatively: Employ graphics, such as charts, maps, and graphic presentations, to interpret technical statistical data in visually impactful ways that inform transportation planning programs.


  • Champion Context-Sensitive Designs: Deliver plans and designs centered in diversity, equity, and inclusion in transportation planning processes.


  • Be a Hands-On Creator: Contribute to the creation of high-quality deliverables, leveraging expertise and enthusiasm for corridor planning, sustainability, and environmental considerations.


  • Think Innovatively: Participate in critical thinking exercises in project development and draw on knowledge of industry trends, positioning our organization for sustained growth and impact.


  • Be a Team Player: Provide support to the team, learning and growing with every project.




Education & Experience Qualifications:


  • Educational Excellence: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning or Design, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or related field.


  • Compelling Portfolio: Showcase your skills with a compelling cover letter and graphically rich portfolio.
    Professional Strength: Minimum of 3 years of experience in multimodal transportation planning, preferably with MPOs, DOTs, or municipalities.


  • Innovative: Self-motivated mindset with a hunger for learning, growth, and pushing boundaries.


  • Passionate Work Ethic: Strong dedication and passion for the profession and community.


  • Collaborative Spirit: Ability to collaborate seamlessly with other design disciplines and team members in our dynamic and supportive environment.


  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency in transportation planning software, GIS tools, and data analysis techniques. Experience in graphic production using Sketchup and Adobe Creative Suite is desirable.


  • Creative Communication: Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
