Job Description:

SUMMARY


The Tool & Die Maker operates various computer-controlled and mechanically controlled machine tools to produce precision parts, fixtures, instruments, tools, and machinery.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


* Performs work safely and per company safety policies and work instructions.
* Converts raw materials into finished products.
* Operates tool room lathes, surface grinders, milling machines, etc., to safely produce parts to blueprint dimensions.
* Notifies supervisor of any tooling or supplies that need to be ordered or processed by an outside source.
* Maintains toolroom equipment and notifies the supervisor of any necessary repairs or maintenance that requires parts or the attention of a more qualified technician.
* Supports all manufacturing and engineering groups by making tooling, fixtures, and automated equipment on time and printing according to engineering drawings.
* Reviews and understands engineering drawings, customer-provided part drawings, manual specifications, or sample parts to determine the dimensions and tolerances of finished parts, the sequence of operations, and set-up requirements.
* Demonstrates proper use of essential hand tools, including measurement equipment.
* Participates in Kaizen and other COS activities as needed.
* Perform job duties to meet quality, cost, and on-time delivery goals.
* Contributes to team effort in a collaborative and supportive manner.


* Maintains a clean, organized work environment and adheres to all safety standards, procedures, regulations, and guidelines within the factory.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE


* A high school diploma or equivalent, e.g., vocational training, is required.
* 1+ years of hands-on experience with precision measuring tools, such as micrometers, indicators, height gauges, gauge pins, and optical comparators.
* Experience in the aerospace, military, and defense industries or cable assembly businesses preferred.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS


* State Certified Tool & Die Journeyman papers or equivalent experience preferred.


LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS


* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
* Conversational in any other language preferred.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


* Applies algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration.


JOB SKILLS


* Beginner in MS Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint is necessary.
* Ability to proficiently use CNC and manual mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM machines.
* Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, read blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
* Ability to read engineering drawings.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
* Demonstrates the ability to set up, operate, and adjust precision machines, inspect, and perform toolmaking and related operations associated with the construction, maintenance, modification, fabrication, and repair of all types of precision die sets, machines, tools, gages, jigs, models, fixtures, instruments, and associated parts used within the facility, involving all types of materials and applications.
* Always maintain a clean and safe work environment.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


The physical requirements outlined below indicate those necessary to fulfill this position's core responsibilities. While performing job duties, the employee will regularly engage in activities such as using hands to finger, handle, or feel and communicating verbally. Additionally, the employee will frequently need to reach with hands and arms while standing and walking as part of the role. Occasional lifting and movement of objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds may be required. This position also demands specific vision capabilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS


* ASTM F-2412-2005, ANSI Z41-1999, or ANSI Z41-1991 rated safety toe shoes in specific areas.
* Clear ANSI Z87.1 safety-rated glasses in specific areas.
* Hearing protection in specific locations.
* Ability to compile with JSA in specific areas.
