Director of the Career Center

Carleton College invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Career Center. The Director will lead the Career Center in empowering students and recent graduates to integrate and apply their liberal arts education toward succeeding in their career paths and living a meaningful life after Carleton.

The College is consistently listed among the top ten liberal arts colleges in various national surveys, including a number one ranking for undergraduate teaching.

Carleton's Off-Campus Study programs and Center for Community and Civic
Engagement (CCCE) create dynamic opportunities for students to learn with and from others in the local community and the wider world. In 2023, 70% of Carleton students participated in at least one study-abroad program and during the 2022-203 academic year, 67% of Carleton students participated in community service.

Under President Alison Byerly, Carleton has just completed a comprehensive strategic planning process. This plan,
The Liberal Arts in Action, focuses on building an equitable community, advancing our understanding of the liberal arts, and expanding Carleton's reach and impact is currently in the midst of being implemented. The Career Center features prominently in the IMPACT pillar of the plan and the next Director will have the opportunity to grow the Career Center in alignment with the exciting goals established by senior leadership and the community.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students, the Director of the Career Center provides the strategic direction behind Carleton's Career Center offerings and capabilities. Leading a staff of 10, the incoming Director will develop and build upon strategies to achieve measurable goals and outcomes around Career Center student engagement, satisfaction, employment surveys, and staff professional development. In addition, the Director will expand the engagement and utilization of alumni and parent volunteers. The Director will engage with a range of constituencies including students, faculty, prospective and existing employers, and a range of external partners. They will also partner with other offices and departments across the College to ensure that career readiness is integrated throughout the Carleton student experience.

Carleton is seeking a seasoned career services professional with strong management and operational leadership experience. The ideal candidate values the benefits of a liberal arts education and has a proven track record of strong student career successes. They will also possess exceptional analytical skills, both quantitatively and qualitatively, bringing an entrepreneurial, cutting-edge thought process to career services. An advanced degree is expected (master's or doctoral).


This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in Northfield, MN. Salary commensurate with experience with a generous benefits package.
