Job Description:

Arcadis is seeking a Project Mechanical Construction Estimator responsible for providing cost estimates for a variety of construction projects in North America. This position will support our Cost Management business line.

Role description:

As part of our Cost Management team, you'll be involved in a wide range of construction projects from global, high-profile clients to smaller projects, ensuring they're delivered on time and to budget. Your expertise in planning, estimating, budgeting and managing costs will drive growth and smarter working. You will help manage the delivery of cost management in the construction sector of medium/large projects, ensuring standards of delivery meet defined objectives. You will also be responsible for delivering the defined scope of work in line with various controls, and will have significant technical knowledge and experience in their field.

Role accountabilities:


  • Grow independent relationships with clients and internal teams
  • Manage the development of cost estimates for projects from concept through execution based on accurate quantity take-offs and deep knowledge of material/labour and equipment costs
  • Respond to, solves and makes decisions on business requests that have broader department impact and/or moderate risk. Presents alternative solutions to business issues by leveraging the broader organization.
  • Review project plans, requirements, and specifications
  • Assist the project management staff with the management of project scope, budget, and schedule
  • Assist with analysis, and report on the project key performance metrics. Engage in value engineering discussions to identify the best solution available for the client
  • Provide life cycle cost and sustainability advice
  • Be a true professional who collaborates and develops partnerships with external and internal Teams

Key Skills & Attributes:

  • Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of estimates and reports as requested by the Project Manager and/or client; includes the collection of necessary cost data for conceptual and/or take-off estimating
  • Help develop and maintain a staff of professionals with project control skills and monitor their efforts to ensure success
  • Prepare estimating procedures and overall estimating review and justification
  • Support Project Controls team in decision making
  • Work within established financial systems and budgets to produce reports and forecasts and track budgets, overseeing costing and variances to manage and control cost variables
  • Deliver a number of small- to medium-cost projects and assignments or significant components of larger assignments, ensuring appropriate use of resources and budgets to deliver the required scope of work within set deadlines
  • Provide advice to colleagues on risk management, compliance, and associated behaviors to ensure adherence to Arcadis' risk and compliance processes
  • Present any project risks or issues to senior managers to ensure the project is not adversely impacted
  • Analyze and review a range of data and documents to collate key themes and trends, using this analysis in conjunction with own knowledge to provide advice and make recommendations to support cost and commercial management decision making
  • Use own knowledge and experience, combined with research of industry best practices, to analyze existing processes and policies
  • Share knowledge and provide insightful recommendations to assist service improvement and innovation
  • Interact effectively and proactively across the organization, seeking to develop ways to support collaboration with the cost management function and applying technical knowledge to ensure projects/programs can be delivered to meet cost expectations
  • Provide specialist technical advice to senior management on issues relating to cost/commercial management, providing solutions, and actively sharing knowledge to support successful delivery

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent construction project experience
  • 8+ years relevant experience in a similar working environment, including delivery small/medium/large projects across the entire project life cycle .
  • Experience working closely with external stakeholders to build client relationships.
  • Experience managing business relationships at middle-management level.
  • Experience working with internal/external Teams as part of the Team.
  • Relevant professional certification.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $82,400 - $142,130.
