Job Summary


The Prototype Engineer/Technician will be responsible for coordinating and building engineering prototype assemblies for DC power systems. This person must be able to interface technically with local and remotely based product development teams to coordinate the planning, execution, and feedback of engineering prototype builds. This person must be knowledgeable with design practices, expedited prototyping, and detailed follow-through for manufacturing readiness. Additionally, this person must possess strong engineering, assembly, fabrication, and organizational skills to deliver excellent results with expedited schedules.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the prototype build schedule for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work under the direction of the project Lead Engineer while providing feedback.
  • Review product CAD drawings and Bills of Materials to develop a build plan and estimated schedule.
  • Coordinate the ordering, expediting, and tracking of prototype material.
  • Fabricate and modify parts as required; hands-on approach.
  • Perform and document quality inspection for new parts and assemblies.
  • Create initial assembly procedures.
  • Capable of working from an Engineering CAD model viewer.
  • Provide real time organized communication of the prototype status to the NPD team.
  • Document the prototype build process, the build results, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Organization and maintenance of the prototype lab materials and equipment.
  • Continuous improvement of the prototype process to increase the integrity of the product and reduce time to market.

Requirements:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering/Engineering Technology.
  • 1-3 years of experience in New Product Development, Prototyping, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Can-do attitude with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage work independently, but also with strong inter-personal skills for collaborating in a team environment.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills are a must.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must (English required).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to forecast completion dates and willingness to meet the dates.
  • Ability to read, interpret and implement mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to use measuring tools and gauges.
  • Skilled with product assembly and fabrication of parts, using a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to manipulate and interpret 3D CAD models (Pro-E/Creo preferred).
  • Able to work with highly confidential information.
