The College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) is the largest college on the Indiana University Northwest campus. The college provides undergraduate and graduate education in a broad range of arts and sciences disciplines that prepare our students for thoughtful citizenship and rewarding careers. Job Summary



This position will interact with the COAS department chairs, faculty and staff in the college across all majors as well as other constituencies outside of the college.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Verifies student degree requirements.

  • Assists students in moving toward degree completion.

  • Works with Academic Advisors within the Student Advising Center and in the BGS/BAS program.

  • Initiates student retention efforts.

  • Is the point of contact for students in determining their degree requirements and the application of transfer courses toward the degree. A thorough knowledge of all major and minor degree requirements will be necessary to function effectively in this role.

  • Reports directly to the Dean of the College.

  • Reviews COAS student records for degree conferral, serving as point of contact for questions related to degree requirements and specific degree progress.

  • Coordinates Senior Reviews through a workflow which includes Department Chairs, Advisors, the Dean, students approaching degree completion and the Registrar.

  • Provides direct support for the COAS Curriculum Committee, the decision-making body for curriculum changes along with the Dean for degree requirements.

  • Coordinates work with the Student Advising Center, Academic Advisors, including Advisors in General Studies (BGS/BAS program).

  • Works and interacts with the Office of Admissions on retention and recruitment initiatives, in line with IUN's strategic planning.

  • Oversees and updates the COAS Bulletin Content.

  • Maintains Dean's List and movement of students through various levels of academic probation.

  • Coordinates COAS commencement activities.

General Responsibilities


  • Develops and implements programs and initiatives that touch on various/multiple student-related goals, such as enhancing and reinforcing academic engagement and experiential learning; increasing student engagement, wellness, and involvement; fostering learning, inclusion, and development; supporting students in crisis and adversity; and improving the student campus experience.

  • Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting 1-on-1 to discuss areas of concern on campus, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives.

  • Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student services goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.

  • Projects outcomes for services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student services against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.

  • Serves on committees and performs student services research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.

  • Plans and coordinates communications for student services initiatives to ensure student participation and engagement.

  • May provide guidance to other student services staff; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in higher education student affairs, public affairs, counseling, social work, education, business, or related field


Preferred



  • Master's degree in related field

  • 2 years in student services, higher education, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Salary Range: $35,568.00 - $51,194.00 annually
