Job Summary:
The Russian River Fish Technician will work under the direction of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS), performing duties such as raking fish waste back into the current of the Russian and Kenai Rivers, picking up trash, sharing educational messages with visitors, recording the amount and location of fish waste, and monitoring bear activity.
Essential Functions:
Rake fish waste into faster-moving water.Pick up trash and monofilament fishing line.Share educational messages with visitors about environmental conservation.Record details about fish waste and bear activity.Ensure compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and Tribal policies.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or currently enrolled.Experience: Knowledge of Kenaitze Denaina values and history.License/Certification: Must have a valid Alaska State drivers license and remain insurable under the Tribes policy, or obtain approval to perform duties without a drivers license.Preferred: Experience working with cultural diversities.
Special Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite or ability to obtain training within 90 days of hire.Service-oriented communication skills, respectful and kind interactions with the public.Ability to multi-task, work independently, and meet deadlines.
Working Conditions:
Lifting Requirements: Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.Physical Requirements: Capable of standing, walking, using hands, climbing, stooping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions: Exposure to extreme temperatures, wet conditions, and noise.
Equipment and Tools:
Utilizes rakes, bear spray, and other safety equipment.
Travel:
Local and in-state travel required, including daily travel from Kenai to Russian River.
Additional Requirements: This position is subject to the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (ICPA). Compliance with these acts is required at all times.
