Job Description:

Who We Are:


The Engine and Aftertreatment Evaluation (EAE) section performs a wide array of evaluation and development programs utilizing engines, aftertreatment systems/components, fuels, lubricants and sensors to support our customers, which include OEMs, suppliers, government regulatory bodies and industry groups. This work supports a range of products, from proof of concept to development to in-field support/evaluation. The products developed and tested typically result in reduced environmental impacts (i.e. cleaner air), improved efficiency and/or increased customer satisfaction.


Objectives of this Role:


  • Assist with achieving section, department and division technical goals through project support (24/7 operation). Projects typically involve the development and evaluation of products intended to reduce emissions and/or improve fuel economy, as well as demonstrate durability.

  • Support engineering and technical staff in testing and development of engines and pollution control systems for current and future power generation applications.

  • Mechanical assembly of aftertreatment test systems, engines and associated support systems, including installation into specialized test cell laboratories.

  • Conduct calibration of high precision measurement equipment, including various emission measurement devices.

  • Utilize various software packages to analyze data to identify abnormal or out of specification test operation.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:


  • Operate various test cells utilized to evaluate and characterize the performance of diesel aftertreatment systems. Involves establishing and following procedural requirements to ensure repeatable, precise and accurate measurements.

  • Perform calibrations on various measurement systems utilized throughout the laboratory (temperature, pressure, flow, speed, concentration, emissions, etc.).

  • Assist with the installation of engines into test cells, along with necessary support equipment.

  • Perform maintenance on and modifications to gasoline, diesel and natural gas engines, as well as building and test cell support systems.

  • Interface with various software packages to verify operational parameters are being met, as well as troubleshooting any abnormal operation.


Requirements:


  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Mechanic, Welder, Fabrication and/or Test Cell Operator.

  • Shift work is required and this position will cover the core hours of midnight to 6am (flexible hours on either side of these times - i.e. 10pm to 6am or midnight to 8am or 11pm to 7am). Six days per week schedule will be required approximately 50% of the time. Up to six months of training (on day shift) will be required before going on midnight shift."

  • 2 years: Hands-on experience with automotive tools and/or engines.

  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
