Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

GBH Kids is responsible for developing, producing, and supervising GBH multimedia productions for children and families. GBH Kids is committed to creating and delivering the highest quality content on television that engages children and enriches their lives with new learning experiences while providing valuable resources for their parents, caregivers, and families.

JOB OVERVIEW

As a team of content creators, we recognize our responsibility to create media that allows a diverse array of children—those who may have been previously silenced, excluded, or diminished—to see themselves reflected on screen in positive and complex ways. The DEIA Creative Producer for Children's Media will be responsible for helping GBH Kids fulfill this promise and authentically embed DEIA (diversity, equity, Inclusion & accessibility) in the development and production of GBH Kids projects, including but not limited to long- and short-form video series and interactive games.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Projects in Development


  • Facilitate a plan and source DEIA talent and resources, such as writers, artists, designers, advisors, and others, for projects in development, working with the Creative Director, Director of Development, Director of Children’s STEM Media, the creators of projects, and others.


  • Work with creative team to identify DEIA opportunities in new projects.


  • Help to formulate and write DEIA plans for creative pitches or proposals and coordinate all phases of DEIA plan’s development with GBH’s Chief Inclusion and Equity Officer and GBH’s Office of Equity and Inclusion for their review of DEIA plans.


Projects in Production


  • Be available to help identify resources such as writers, advisors, VO talent, vendors needed for projects to execute their DEIA plans.


  • Oversee the revision of DEIA plans for subsequent seasons of projects, working with the Executive Producers and their teams, and coordinating with GBH’s Chief Inclusion and Equity Officer and GBH’s Office of Equity and Inclusion for their review.


  • Assist with formative and summative evaluations of projects’ DEIA goals.


Departmental Responsibilities


  • Create the GBH Kids DEIA Approach and Protocol document to serve as a guide for all GBH Kids content creation, working with members of the GBH Kids team and GBH’s Chief Inclusion and Equity Officer and GBH’s Office of Equity and Inclusion.


  • Attend GBH Kids DEIA committee meetings.


  • Liaise with GBH’s Chief Inclusion and Equity Officer and team.


  • Be available to respond to GBH Kids’ partners (including CPB and PBS) when DEIA needs arise.


SKILL SET


  • A clear understanding of the GBH Kids’ mission and a passion for creating media that can support all children’s learning and development.


  • Strong knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) best practices in formal and/or informal education.


  • An understanding of cultural concepts and culturally responsive strategies.


  • Current on DEIA terminology, usage, and meanings.


  • Have a global mindset in terms of world view and concepts.


  • Experience working in children’s media is a plus.


  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.


  • Excellent skills in engaging and collaborating with creative professionals.


  • Strong written and oral communication skills.


  • Comfortable working with multiple projects in numerous stages of completion, juggling a variety of tasks and adjusting priorities on short notice while meeting production deadlines.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. Candidates for this position must have a sustained and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. A minimum of 5 to 7 years of work experience Is required, preferably In children's media production and development or in education.
