This individual provides leadership and direction of the operation, organization, administration and evaluation of the TJC certified stroke center, neurology and neurosurgery programs. . He/she works collaboratively with physicians, other nursing managers, and Assistant Administrators to advise and coordinate the development and implementation of departmental policy and direction. The person in this position must be competent in providing service to patients aging from adulthood through geriatrics. He/she will be accountable for the development and implementation of methods to maintain and improve patient care and enhance staff development in the areas of stroke care, neurological and neurosurgery disease processes and procedures.EDUCATION:

Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Preferred: Master's Degree Masters of Science in Nursing

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION:

Current State of Ohio Nursing License.

Obtain SCRN, Stroke Certified Registered Nurse certification and CNRN, Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse within 18 months.

Certification to be maintained.

Responsible for overall coordination of the Neuroscience Program as well as the stroke and neurology quality dashboard.

Completes daily chart audits for neuroscience patients. Provides real-time feedback to ED and in-patient units regarding audits and potential fallout of data to be abstracted after discharge.

Promotes continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient settings through consultation with patients, families, medical and nursing staff.

Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission criteria in collaboration with the American Stroke Association.

Responsible for education and collaboration with Telemedicine team as well as vendor to provide ongoing training within the ED and in-patient settings where applicable.

Utilizes the nursing process for direct patient care and assists the nursing staff with assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care needs.

Assists in interpretation and implementation of established policies and

procedures, makes recommendations for revisions and assists with updating policies and procedures.

Participates regularly in peer review activities. Works closely with the Stroke, Neurology and Neurosurgery Medical Director's to coordinate the care of the neuroscience patient.

Works closely with Clinical Managers, Nurse Clinicians, Clinical Nurse

Specialists, Staff Development educators, and other disciplines to enhance the care of stroke patients.

Be available for consultation for patients and families throughout their entire recovery process.

Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission criteria in collaboration with the American Stroke Association.

Responsible for overall coordination of the Neuroscience Program as well as working collaboratively with the quality team to update the stroke and neuroscience quality dashboards.

Develop short and long-range goals for the neuroscience program in conjunction with the neuroscience program Medical Directors and hospital administration.

Outreach:

Assists with learning needs assessments, formal and informal, for pre-hospital personnel, nurses and physicians in the region

Plans, implements, and evaluates educational offerings to meet the needs of the pre-hospital providers, nurses, and physicians in the region.

Routinely visits referral agencies within the region to identify customer problems and recommend/develop solutions in an effort to build

positive relationships and increase quality of care provided to patients.

Develop and coordinate patient follow-up information process to referral agencies as appropriate and in compliance with HIPPA regulations.

Resource Management:

Manages human and material resources cost effectively.

Develops standards of performance, supervises and evaluates performance of stroke program support personnel.

Maintains accountability in conjunction with Administration and Medical Staff in monitoring personnel, financial, and overall programmatic issues for the Neuroscience Program

Participates in overall budgetary planning, monitors budget for variances, and modifies budget projections as necessary.

Other:

Initiates and coordinates Continuous Quality Improvement activities for the Neuroscience Program to further enhance the quality of patient care offered and respond appropriately to quality concerns/initiatives.
