We are seeking a full-time Senior Compliance Engineer on our Automotive OEM team in our Olathe, KS OR our Cary, NC location. In this role you will be responsible for creating and implementing complex regulatory compliance plans for major product development programs within the Automotive business at Garmin.
Essential Functions
Contributes to advanced regulatory and standards research on new technologies, markets and geographic regions
Provides clear options and leadership for recovery plans as needed, displaying excellence in project management (identifying critical milestones, gating items and priorities, determining deadlines for deliverables on critical path, and communicating to cross-functional team members)
Identifies compliance related risks, effectively communicates them, and suggests best means for avoiding or reducing the risks
Leads compliance plan reviews and safety design review meetings for individual products, early in the design cycle
Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Compliance Engineers
Effectively communicates the dependencies of other departments' deliverables on our project milestones and vice versa
Works with compliance labs regularly
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Experience in providing direction and taking the lead on regulatory input during the product design process
ESD, EMC, EMI, product safety testing and international type approvals involving countries around the world
Understanding of manufacturing and supply chain issues as they relate to phase-in of compliance-driven design changes
Experience reviewing EMC and safety design aspects for circuit design and PCB layout
Ability to explain and document regulatory and standards requirements
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
Experience with Bluetooth SIG Certification, Wi-Fi Alliance, or other short range devices, IEEE Ethernet compliance,
Familiarity with business to business country compliance interactions in industries such as aviation, automotive, medical, marine, transportation industry (complex products that we partner with an OEM)
