Through the section's comprehensive research efforts, faculty members and researchers hope to find new and better ways of treating a broad range of diseases. One such research project that has received widespread national attention and support is Project Aspire and its sister project the Thirty Million Words Initiative-they aim to use family-centered curriculum and parent language to bridge the achievement gap between groups of children.
Job Summary
The job uses best practices and knowledge of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments for General Otolaryngology (ENT) patients and Otology patients. The scope of practice includes family support, staff education, consultation, and research. Clinic sites include, but are not limited to, Hyde Park, and Crown Point, Indiana.
Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills and knowledge to provide assessment, evaluation, testing, treatment, therapies, medical management, and other direct care to general ENT and otology patients.
Provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician in outpatient settings.
Performs outpatient general ENT and Otology procedures.
Examines patients to obtain information about their physical condition. Instructs and counsels patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
Makes tentative diagnoses and decisions about the management and treatment of patients.
Obtains, compiles, and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, and results of physical examination.
Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and infection management.
Prescribes therapy or medication, typically with physician approval.
Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.
Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient's plan of care.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
An advanced degree (or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001) from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA).
Experience:
Two or more years of clinical experience in a related area of specialty.
Licenses and Certifications for Advanced Practice Nurse:
Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Licenses and Certifications for Physician Assistant:
Current Physician Assistant license/registration in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) by start date.
Preferred Competencies
Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Knowledge of pharmacy, phlebotomy, injections, and general ENT/otology procedures.
Ability to provide direct patient care in a professional and respectful manner.
