The Department of Environmental Science at Westfield State University seeks a one semester, part-time environmental science faculty member for the spring semester of 2024 to teach a 3-credit undergraduate course in Environmental Chemistry, Pollution, & Toxicology to students in our major (enrollment will likely be 16-20 students). The course meets in person, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:45-5:00 PM. Applicants must have a M.S. or Ph.D. in an environmental-science discipline and be a dynamic and engaging teacher. Topics of the course may include atmospheric chemical mechanisms that influence the greenhouse effect and ozone depletion as well as the basics of chemical reactions and processes in air, soil, and water. Previous experience teaching college-level chemistry or experience using common water, soil, and air chemistry monitoring protocols are desirable.


Westfield State University is one of the few universities to have a Department of Environmental Science, currently with 100 students in the major. The University is ideally situated on the edge of the Berkshire Mountains in western Massachusetts. The University owns a beaver pond / wetland complex, property on the Wild and Scenic Westfield River and woodlands which are often used for field -based teaching and research. We have a strong working relationship with environmental partners such as The Nature Conservancy, MA Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, MA Division of Ecological Restoration, the Wild and Scenic Westfield River Committee, National Park Service, and others.

Salary:



Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies. State job specifications may be found on the Department of Higher Education's webpage.
