Location: Riverdale, Maryland





Job Description:


  • Gain a deep understanding of the key project contracts (prime contract, major subcontracts, and purchase orders). This includes, among other things, acquire familiarity with: (i) notice procedures and deadlines in the agreements; (ii) contractual risk allocation; (iii) invoicing and payment provisions; (iv) contractual remedies and preconditions to obtaining relief; and (v) dispute escalation and resolution sequence.

  • Provide advice to project management team on the contractual impact of proposed actions.

  • Provide training to the project management team on the key project contracts.

  • Drafting project correspondence to be sent to the Owner/Concessionaire, key subcontractors and critical third parties. Gather the necessary technical or commercial data necessary for the specific piece of correspondence in question. Seek input, review and approval from the Project Manager.

  • Support the project management team in creating the necessary awareness in all key personnel at the Project so that issues which may require contractual response are identified and communicated in a timely fashion.

  • Disseminate good practices with regards to internal communications (internal memos, e-mails between team members). Ensure good practices to that effect are followed.

  • Advice in the identification and preparation of claims in close coordination with project management team. Management of disputes and claims.

  • Coordinate with partners' in-house and Project outside counsel.

  • Review, as requested by the project team, solicitations (RFQs, RFPs) to be issued to vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, etc.).

  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating construction-related contracts (design/build agreements, subcontracts, joint venture agreements, etc.) according to company policies

  • Reviewing any adjustments made to contracts and ensuring that the specifications comply with agreements made

  • Open and transparent communications with and functional reporting to Dragados USA's General Counsel/Senior Vice President and willingness to take direction.

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned


Required



  • Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate required.

  • 7 to 10 years of law firm or in-house experience with a minimum of 5 years' experience in contracts and negotiation is a must.

  • At least 5 years of construction experience required, preferably in-house.

  • Admitted to the Bar (license to practice law) required, preferably in Maryland.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.

  • Team player with strong communication skills, reporting skills, analytical skills, negotiating skills and organizational capabilities.

  • Familiarity with contract documents and contract law.


Preferred



  • In-house counsel experience.

  • Admitted to the Maryland Bar
