Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Technical Writer plays an integral role in supporting the Zeiss Global Service Organization by producing high-quality technical documentation, explosion diagrams, and other supporting materials. The Technical Writer is expected to explain complex information in a clear and concise manner and to work closely across teams to ensure accuracy of product and process descriptions. This role will join the Serviceability Innovation Team, working closely with New Product Introduction Engineers and other key subject matter experts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, develop, organize, write, and revise technical service documentation (installation instructions, service instructions, service bulletins, service manuals, and troubleshooting guides etc.)

  • Independently research multiple channels to obtain technical design, process, and operational information for publication and coordinate approval & release of documents

  • Create text and graphics, in both electronic and hard-copy formats

  • Collaborate across global service, R&D, quality management, regulatory affairs and product management to develop, author, and release service documents

  • Maintain comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation

  • Ensure adherence to the style guide and craft content aligned with its specifications.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position will report to Manager, Serviceability Innovation. This position will collaborate and work closely with service NPI engineers and members of the Global Service Organization.

REQUIREMENTS:

(Bona Fide Occupational Requirements, such as education, certification, and/ or skills that are necessary to do the job.)


  • Bachelor's Degree (or European equivalent) in Technical Writing, English, Communications, or related field

  • Excellent English language written and verbal communication skills

  • Capable of explaining complex technical concepts in clear and concise language

  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience creating technical documentation

  • Knowledge of applicable standards and laws regarding medical technology (e.g. FDA requirements, European MDR, ISO 60601-1, etc.) and ability to deliver work output in compliance to those standards

  • Must be able to produce products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards

  • Demonstrated experience with structured XML authoring tools (e.g. DITA-XML, XMetaL) for technical documentation management

  • Demonstrated experience with component content management systems: preferable Schema ST4

  • Experience creating modular and reusable technical documents (e.g. manuals, user guides, service instructions, and troubleshooting guides.)

  • Highly skilled and experienced with:

    • XML authoring tools: preferable Schema ST4

    • Adobe Acrobat Pro

    • Adobe Photoshop

    • CAD illustration tools: preferable CREO Illustrate

    • Other tools for technical writing and editing graphics (e.g. Corel Draw, Corel Paintshop Pro)



SPECIAL DEMANDS:

  • Occasional International and Domestic travel is required up to 20%

  • Duties of this job may involve standing and/or walking for brief periods of time.

  • Duties also involve daily keyboard data entry.

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.

The annual pay range for this position is $81,000 -$101,300.

The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.
