Job Description

Summary

This application is for a 12-week internship role from June - August 2024. Resume review begins in January 2024.

The downstream drug substance pilot group is responsible for pilot scale execution of downstream unit operations, prior to scaling up to manufacturing. The downstream Pilot group develops and supports the development of several of the unit operations that will make up the final purification process for a biologic therapeutic.

Position Description

As the intern, you will support the development and evaluation of the Repligen TangenX - NovaSep Sius (Hystream 30 kD) Ultrafiltration/Diafiltration (UFDF) filter to reduce COG's in manufacturing downstream processes. You will focus on evaluating TangenX TFF filters as a potential alternative to the Millipore Pellicon Ultracel filters across multiple programs / processes.

Detailed description of role including but not limited to:


  • Requesting downstream process intermediate samples from pilot runs and manufacturing batches.


  • Conduct and document small scale and pilot scale TFF experiments with a focus on process definition and understanding, assist in experimental design and troubleshooting, and analyze data including process modeling and proof-of-concept analyses.


  • Evaluating HySteam TangenX UFDF filter performance and cleanability/membrane regeneration side-by-side with Ultracel filters.


  • Authoring a summary report of the data as well as a presentation

Qualifications

Qualifications:


  • Knowledge and technical experience in protein purification / biotechnology related filtration development


  • Familiarity with the UFDF unit operation is desirable.


  • A strong grasp of Excel and higher-level math (calculus) is desirable for this position.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management and organizational skills.


  • Excellency in working with PC based computer systems and relevant applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:


  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.


  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date


  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.


Education


  • Exceptional undergraduate student who has completed at least three years of program, or a first year Master's program, with 0-2+ years' experience desired


  • Desired majors include: Bio/Chemical Engineering, Biomanufacturing or related field
