Job Description:

The Moscow Food Co-op seeks a Produce Stocker to assist with receiving produce and ensuring that produce shelves are properly stocked, fronted, rotated and displayed in an attractive manner. This person also assists customers with produce questions, offers samples, and helps customers place special orders while providing world class customer service. The position also requires the ability to work well on a team and independently, come to work on time, complete scheduled shifts and plan ahead for absences, follow instructions of manager, maintain a clean and organized workspace, ability to stand on your feet for long periods of time. Applicant should be personable, level-headed, upbeat and enthusiastic about interacting with a wide range of customers. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, and obtain an Idaho Health Department food and safety certification.

This is a Part-Time (20-29 hrs) position. Days and shifts vary and includes early morning, evenings and weekends. Candidates must be available for weekends, holidays and during university breaks.

Position Summary

The Produce Stocker is responsible for assisting the Produce Manager by keeping displays fully stocked and merchandised with fresh produce. This position will be responsible for providing prompt, friendly, courteous customer service while meeting department goals for quality, sales, margin, and service. This position is a part of the produce team and works closely with the Produce Manager to support achievement of the Moscow Food Co-op’s strategic goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Support and contribute to effective merchandising and display of all produce items throughout the department.

  • Stock displays fully and consistently as appropriate with a high regard for quality; face items on shelves.

  • Replenish and rotate displays, maintaining stocking standards.

  • Cull displays several times daily, recording and disposing of low-quality produce.

  • Trim, wash, bundle produce, maintaining department standards.

  • Pull dated or low quality items and follow established procedures for recording and disposing of them.

  • Label items accurately with signs and follows the branding guidelines.

  • Maintain produce cases, walk-in, prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.

  • Perform regular cleaning of wet racks, coolers, storage areas, and displays. Participate in deep cleaning as needed.

  • Maintain department equipment, monitor cooler temperatures, and advise the Produce Manager of equipment repair or replacement needs.Receive deliveries, check deliveries for damage, quality and accuracy, and note discrepancies on invoices, invoice log, and credit log. Label freight according to department standards, rotate into storage and displays as required.

Customer Service


  • Demonstrate excellent customer skills, both internally and externally; Follow the 10-4 service rule

  • Make yourself available to customers; greet each customer promptly with a smile.

  • Handle customer complaints and questions courteously.     

  • Coordinate with all supervisors and leads to address customer concerns, questions or thoughts. i.e., refunds, oops coupons, angry customers, broken machinery etc.

  • Help customers place special orders. 

  • Accurately and completely record special orders and ensure the forms are delivered for processing.

  • Offer tastes, samples, suggestions for purchase and ways to prepare food.

Communication


  • Communicate directly and professionally, following the Moscow Food Co-op Coworker Conduct Commitment.

  • Stay up to date on information in department log books.

  • Answer and route phone calls according to Moscow Food Co-op procedures.

  • Keep a working phone and personal email address for necessary communication from the Co-op.

  • Report customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to Mod and Department Manager.

Other Duties


  • Work cooperatively with others in the department and throughout store

  • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.

  • Take breaks according to department and store policy.

  • Requests time-off according to department and store policy, arranges subs for scheduled shifts and subs when needed.

  • Follows the direction of the Manager on Duty (MOD).

  • Maintain accurate use of the time system, substitute for other staff as needed

  • Ensure a safe working environment for all staff and customers.

  • Assist with training new staff when appropriate

  • Carry out established opening and closing procedures.

  • Complete Co-op-wide trainings as required.

  • Attend all inventories, dept. meetings, and all-staff meetings.

  • Participate in department and store-wide initiatives as they occur.

  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the Moscow Food Co-op.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; retail, natural foods, or produce stocking experience preferred.

  • Motivated, energetic, outgoing, self-directed, positive, adaptable team player.

  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills.

  • Highly motivated with a sense of urgency and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment at all times with all levels of employees; able to work on a team or independently.

  • Organized and able to handle multiple demands; Reliable and dependable.

  • Basic computer and math skills.

  • Hold or obtain a current food safety card for the state of Idaho.

  • Regular, predictable attendance including, weekend, evening and holiday work required.

  • Willingness and ability to meet the changing requirements of the job.

Physical Requirements


  • Ability to stand for long periods and work in subzero temperatures.

  • Ability to work in close quarters with other people.

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; Push/pull hand cart, racks up to 200 pounds.

  • Frequent kneeling, stooping, squatting, bending, reaching (overhead/front/side/back).
