Job Description:

1. Job Summary:
The Senior Sports Director provides leadership as a subject matter expert and oversees association programming for a designated sport or program to meet specific association objectives. The incumbent is responsible for developing, organizing, delivering and administering sports leagues, recreation programs and activities targeted toward youth, teen and adults at assigned branch. They are responsible for recruiting and engaging volunteers for their programs at assigned branch.
2. Essential Functions:
Provides leadership and direction for a designated sport or program across the association as well as sports activities.Develop, organize, deliver and administer sports leagues, tournaments, recreation programs, activities and awards for assigned branch.Plan, organize, schedule, and direct all games, facilities, officials, and scorekeepers for YMCA sports and activities for assigned branch.Actively research new sports programs and activities targeted toward youth and adults.Recruit, hire on-board, train, develop and supervise sport team members.Lead the coordination of internal play of branches.Ensure a high level of customer service for all program participants.Prepare and manage the program budget to ensure revenue and program service goals are achieved.Serve as a member of the branch leadership team performing specific duties which support the overall success of branch operations.
3. Relationships:
The Senior Sports Director reports to the Executive Director or District Executive Director who reports to the Senior Vice President of Operations. The incumbent works closely with the Athletic Director, Sports Council, Executive Directors and Youth Development Teams and other branch staff. This position supervises the Sports Team at assigned home branch(s).
4. Qualifications:
Required
Minimum of four (4) years of experience developing, implementing, scheduling and evaluating varied sports recreation programs.Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage sports recreation program activities at multiple sites.Knowledge of rules in sports recreation program activities.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Creative thinker with a history of applying innovation in programming.Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build community relationships.Basic skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.Ability to manage programs to a diverse population.
Preferred
Degree in Recreation, Management, Physical Education or related fieldMulti LingualCPR/PR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen certifications (within 30 days of hire).

5. Work Conditions:
Perform all physical aspects of the position, including moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations.May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as part of the environment.Work environments range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently.Must be able to actively participate in youth games/activities.Ability to travel locally to YMCA branches and other program sites.Ability to work a varied schedule of nights and weekends.
