WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Youth Environmental Thinkers (YET) Program, delivered via a hybrid model of in-person and on-line activities, is designed to introduce, and enhance the knowledge and understanding of the connection between people and nature. This goal is accomplished while implementing the curriculum designed to inform, challenge, and participate in activities focused on connecting with self, people, and nature. The YET Interns will participate in the scheduled daily activities such as outings and field trips, lectures, presentations, research, stewardship, and recreational activities.

Responsibilities & Scope:

  • Works responsibly and independently under close supervision.
  • Completion of assignments and responsibilities each week and attend virtual and in-person sessions as scheduled.
  • Make sound, independent decisions based on the stated responsibilities and expectations.
  • Participation in the activities and responsibilities dictated by the curriculum.
  • Comply with safety and group engagement rules and regulations.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, requiring physical exertion and/or muscular strain.
  • Work hours are generally Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30am to 3:30pm CST.

This is a part-time (18 hours per week), short-term position running June 4 to July 11. Work will include online assignments and sessions; and in-person activities at the Indian Boundary Prairies preserve located in Markham, Illinois.



WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU

If you are 16-18 years old, the YET Internship Program is designed for you. There will be active learning about self, others, the natural and social environments that they impact and are impacted by. At the end of the program, interns will be able to define and dialogue about climate change from both an environmental and sociological perspective. This is a unique opportunity for students to learn more about the connection between people and nature as they engage in the program offerings made possible by the world's leading conservation organization.



WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • High school student, 16 - 18 years of age.
  • Experience taking direction and collaborating effectively with leaders; and interact with others respectfully and professionally.
  • Experience working in groups.
  • Must have a valid Minor Work Permit.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Access to a computer and Wi-Fi to complete online assignments.

SALARY INFORMATION

The pay for a candidate selected for this position is generally $17.50 an hour. This rate only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
