About the Department



The TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health at the University of Chicago develops, tests, and implements evidence-based interventions, tools, and technology designed to promote very young children's cognitive and social-emotional development, with a priority placed on that of children living in poverty. TMW interventions are designed to be overlaid onto existing health, education, and social service systems working at scale in a given community in order to meet families where they already are. Our goal is to effect population-level change in children's academic and developmental outcomes.



Job Summary



The TMW Center seeks a Research Technician to support an array of administrative and operational duties that are essential to the effectiveness of the Center's team. This candidate will work across the team in a variety of functions, all of which are with the goal of ensuring our team operates in a nimble, effective, and compliant manner. This candidate will serve individuals ranging from the Primary Investigator (PI) to study participants and will be expected to offer a courteous and efficient experience to everyone. Applicants with experience working in customer-facing and detail-oriented positions are encouraged to consider this role.



Responsibilities



Research Operations Support:


  • Assists Sr. Manager of Research Operations with the execution of routine tasks and processes related to compliance and administration of the research administration function of the Center.


  • Issues payments and other incentives to study participants, ensuring all payments are issued correctly, tracked with fidelity, and in compliance with all University and funder obligations related to human subject payments and recordkeeping.


  • Maintains records of employee, student and collaborator status and eligibility for various studies with the University's Institutional Review Board (IRB.)


  • Submits regular updates to University Research Administration regarding new and departing project members.


  • Proactively identifies and communicates with staff, students, and collaborators whose certifications or other requirements require action such as additional training to remain compliant and making sure to update certification records accordingly.


  • Ensuring ongoing and new research subjects are onboarded properly and promptly.


  • Coordinating the inventory, maintenance and shipping/receiving of laptops, promotional or educational materials to partners, and other IT devices to TMW Center partners around the country.




General Administration Support:


  • Assists Operations Manager and Finance Director with the execution of routine administrative processes such as generating reports, conducting bank deposits, filing documents, and ordering supplies.


  • Coordinates the flow of incoming and outgoing mail and parcels to the Center's staff in collaboration with UCMC Supply Chain department.


  • Assists in inventorying project materials and replenishing office supplies and materials as needed.


  • Assists in the planning and execution of Center-wide meetings and events.




Calendar Logistics to Primary Investigator and other Executive Support:


  • Manages the Primary Investigator's electronic calendar every day, which includes scheduling/rescheduling and maintaining all internal and external meetings (except for the PI's clinical work.).


  • Ensures the PI's calendar is meticulously maintained by applying thorough attention to detail and offering timely updates and solutions as requested during business hours.


  • Communicates diplomatically with all external and internal meeting attendees, including providing context to meeting attendees as necessary. Provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders.


  • Proactively identifies potential scheduling conflicts and efficiencies and share these regularly with the PI and manager.




Participant Outreach, Recruitment & Support:


  • Serves as Single Point of Contact for current and future research study participants.


  • Conducts targeted outreach and recruitment to future participants.


  • Maintains all records of communication efforts with participants.


  • Partners with TMW Center staff members to ensure current and upcoming studies have adequate amounts of participants.


  • Provides technical assistance to individual participants using TMW Center research devices.


  • Maintains regular contact with participants, ensuring that their contact information is updated on a routine basis.


  • Regularly reports updates on participant recruitment, study progress, and study completion to relevant parties, including stakeholders internal and external to TMW.




Other:


  • Provides technical and administrative support for a research project.


  • Collects and enters data. Assists in analyzing data. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts, and other documents.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).
