Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

It's an exciting time in Salve Regina University's distinguished history with a 75th anniversary recently celebrated, and a comprehensive fundraising campaign launched. This campaign, Our Mission. Our Moment., will have a transformational impact by enhancing the student experience and uniquely preparing Salve students to make a positive difference in the world. The University seeks a seasoned development professional with an entrepreneurial mindset, eager to embrace this multi-faceted opportunity as an integral member of Salve Regina's Advancement Leadership team. This professional will play an essential role in advancing the institution's Mercy mission; educating its constituency about leadership vision and funding priorities, along with inspiring impactful philanthropic support.

BASIC FUNCTION

The Director of Development (DOD) serves as a front-line major gifts officer focused on qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of mid- to high- level prospective donors in support of campaign funding priorities of the University. The DOD will oversee the Major and Leadership Gifts program and supervise staff utilizing a formal 'moves-management' system for major and special gift solicitations.

The incumbent will work with Advancement staff to ensure the growth of the University's Annual Fund through leadership gifts, Corporate Giving, and Major Gifts. Working closely with the Assistant Vice President of Development and Planned Giving (AVP), the DOD will help plan and conduct elements of Salve's comprehensive campaign with special emphasis on alumni giving and parent giving. Collaborate with the Vice President of University Advancement (VP) and the Advancement Leadership team to support donor cultivation and solicitation efforts with the President's office, Chancellor's Office, University Cabinet and Board of Trustees.

The DOD will work closely with the VP and AVP in support of front-line fundraising staff members, including management of metrics and performance expectations that ensure success. This position will work closely with other Advancement directors to meet the goals of the division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Foster a collaborative and empowering work environment rooted in Salve Regina University's Mercy mission: demonstrate empathic and inspirational leadership in the management of direct reports and through the positive engagement of Advancement team members.

Manage a personal portfolio of major, planned and blended gift prospective donors with a full schedule of discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship visits. Conduct an average of 125-140 visits annually - depending on management load and status of gift opportunities; meet revenue and participation targets set with the AVP.

Supervise and mentor a Leadership Gifts Officer and conduct searches to grow the team. Clearly articulate activity and fundraising metrics to this team and regularly review progress.

Oversee management of the Parent Leadership Giving Society with AVP.

In collaboration with the AVP and the Executive Director of Alumni & Family Engagement and Annual Giving, develop plans to move mid-level Annual Fund prospects to higher level giving through personal outreach, visits, and through occasions such as reunion giving and fundraising special events. Work with Annual Giving and Alumni & Family Engagement staff to promote peer-to-peer solicitations to grow the overall number of donors to the University.

Collaborate with the Executive Director of Alumni & Family Engagement and Annual Giving and her/his/their team to secure leadership matching gifts, recruit volunteers for special fundraising initiatives (e.g., Seahawks Take Flight, Day of Giving, etc.) and help staff campus or regional events.

Collaborate with the Athletic Director and Executive Director of the Pell Center on fundraising strategies and partnering for their respective divisions. Regular attendance at Seahawk Athletic competitions and Pell Center engagements is encouraged.

Engage donors and prospective donors on campus through Career Development, Academic Programs, Athletics and Student Life, etc.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Development and Planned Giving and Vice President of University Advancement.

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
