Under the direction of the Production superintendent and the control room operator, the plant operator uses computers and sophisticated instrumentation to monitor and make adjustments to the system, including efficient operations of the cement manufacturing process.
Requirements
Operate equipment including, but not limited to the Roller Mills, Kilns, Coolers and Finish Mills
Monitor all equipment in the plant, such as temperatures, pressures and amp gauges interpreting gauges, charts and instruments to make adjustments as necessary
Coordinate activities of operating personnel. Has the authority to assign routine and non-routine work
Answer incoming calls in a professional and courteous manner and direct calls as needed
Work in cooperation with Lab personnel in the effort to produce quality products. This may include cross training and running samples with Lab personnel to effectively learn the chemistry of clinker and cement products and by-products
Accountable for personnel and equipment safety, production rates, emissions and other process variables as assigned
Maintain accurate records of the kilns, finish mills and their auxiliary equipment
Perform other tasks as assigned by the control room operator and the Production Superintendent
Minimum Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must have minimum 2 years of experience in cement production and thorough knowledge of the kiln process
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to multi-task and make sound decisions in a very fast paced and demanding environment
Ability to make decisions, troubleshoot problems and assist the CRO and production Superintendent
Must acquire computer knowledge which includes, Windows, Excel, Microsoft and Wonderware Applications
Must have strong basic mathematics skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Ability to clearly communicate with all plant personnel in all areas of the plant using English
Must be computer literate and have ability to learn new software
Strong, courteous communication skills
Team oriented, able to work in a fast paced environment
Self-starter with ability to work with little or no supervision
Ability to read and interpret gauges/dials and process video and make competent decisions related to processing equipment
Must be able to work rotating shift- days, nights, weekends and holidays
Ability to work with all supervisors and keep them informed of Control Room situations
Must have leadership skills and the ability to fill in for the CRO if required
Excellent work ethic - high standard of safe performance and production
Assist in various labor activities during plant outages.

Physical Requirements
Ability sit or stand for long periods of time while monitoring process control screens to ensure safe and efficient plant operation
Visual acuity and hearing to see video monitors to read and interpret the video and graphic process representations and hear various warning sounds requiring instant reactions
Manual dexterity to use computer keyboard, mouse and other basic office equipment
Ability to work at heights up to 350' above ground level
Walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this production labor position
