Butter Maintenance Technician

Job Title: Butter Maintenance Technician

WAGE: $27 - $30 per hour. Depending on experiences

Typical Hours: Full-time, 8-hour shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed

Job Function:

This position ensures the safe and appropriate operation of systems and equipment groups that include but are not limited to: Butter Manufacturing. General duties include but are not limited to troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining machinery, electrical/mechanical equipment, and computerized systems, such as separators, pasteurizers, tanks, silos, churns, packaging machines, case packers, palletizers, conveyors, motors and all other associated components per the CMMS (Computer managed maintenance system) methods, diagrams, blueprints, operating manuals, or manufacturing specifications.

Minimum General Requirements:


  • High School diploma or its equivalent


  • Must possess a working knowledge of basic machines and tools including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance


  • Demonstrate effective troubleshooting skills in diagnosing electrical power, electrical/computerized controls, and/or mechanical equipment/systems problems


  • Working knowledge of AC & DC power and control voltages, PLC VFD Drives, and process instrumentation

Physical Demands:


  • Frequently required to stand and walk; use hands and fingers, handle and/or feel objects, tools, and/or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, often in cramped positions; talk, hear, feel, and/or smell.


  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs


  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus



Other Duties

  • This position is responsible for using the computer-managed maintenance system tools and procedures to properly document all operating conditions, unscheduled repair efforts, scheduled preventative and scheduled predictive efforts


  • Confers with operators and observes, tests, and evaluates the operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose the cause of malfunction(s).


  • Operates and maintains in good working order all components and equipment in the butter room.


  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies such as but not limited to: State and Federal Government Agencies, Insurance Inspectors, and Company Inspectors.


  • Disassembles machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.


  • Examines parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear.


  • Repair, replace, adjust, and align components of machinery and equipment.


  • Cleans and lubricates parts, equipment, and machinery.


  • Test-runs repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs


  • Fabricates replacement parts.


  • Welds to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment.


  • Requisitions parts and materials.


  • Repairs and replaces electrical wiring and components.


  • Records repairs and maintenance performed in an accurate and timely manner.


  • Ability to work on AC/DC power and control voltages.


  • Has all required tools to perform job and carriers basic tools and test equipment at all times and maintains such in good working order at all times.


  • Works on PLC controls, and VFD drives and demonstrates a good understanding of instrumentation.


  • Effectively troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, and process issues independently.


  • Communicates effectively and works well with all employees, visitors, and vendors.


  • Reliable and available to work any shift and holidays as per job bid and current contract language.


  • Work overtime as required as per contract language.


  • Performs other duties as may be required.
