Position Description

Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers' storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.

Primary purpose:

  • Summer Hire position to gain hands-on experience within the Transportation Industry by working alongside experienced Liquid Terminal Operators.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Reliable team member in support of Field Operations.
Work duties may include:

  • Attend safety meetings/training

  • Shadow experienced Operators and assist in carrying out various operational work assignments

  • Learn the proper procedures used to load and unload tank trucks, ships and barges

  • Learn the proper tools used to record product temperature and levels in storage tanks

  • Handle material, supplies and equipment needed to complete work orders

  • Learn to read and use drawings, blueprints and maps

  • Gain knowledge of environmental rules and regulations along with requirements for safe and efficient operation of facilities

  • Follow all Company policies and apply appropriate operating and maintenance procedures

  • Complete or assist with written and/or online work orders and other various documentation

  • Maintain a clean workspace free of trash and debris


Position Requirements

Minimum requirements:
Education:

  • High School Degree or Equivalent GED
*Process Technology student or recent graduate prefered.
Certifications/Licenses:


  • Must have a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver's license and a good driving record

  • Must pass and complete safety training/certification as required by Kinder Morgan

  • Must have the ability to obtain or meet all requirements such as background checks, drug screening.

Experience / specific knowledge:

  • No prior experience required - this is a learning and development opportunity

  • Willing to get hands dirty while getting hands on experience in the field on operations, projects, maintenance, and troubleshooting

  • Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications

Skills/abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and within a team

  • Strong verbal and communication skills

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations in the performance of some duties. Calculators and computers are available.

  • Possess strong problem solving, analytical and creative thinking skills

  • Regular attendance is required with willingness to work nights and weekends

Physical demands:

  • Ability to manually open and close valves, turn and tighten nuts and bolts, unload arriving material, lift, carry / move weights regularly weighing 40-50 lbs.

  • Ability to walk on paved, gravel or other uneven surfaces.

  • Ability to manipulate and use hand tools in performance of various functions.

  • Ability to perform various administrative and field operator and maintenance tasks.

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; walk , ascend/descend stairs/ladders; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk and hear.

  • Must be able to work on docks

Working conditions:

  • Working outdoors in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wind, rain, etc.)

  • May include heights (stairs, platforms, ladders, etc.)

  • Company will provide proper safety gear and personal protective equipment


Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities:
Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
Preferred candidate will be enrolled in or have completed a course of study such as:

  • Instrumentation & Electrical

  • Building and Construction Management

  • Welding

  • Controls and Electronics

  • Machining

  • Robotics and Automation

  • Process Safety Management

  • Or like fields of study
