Job Description:

Position Summary



In this role, you will manage all aspects of formulating and carrying out data policies and practices related to Carlyle's Global Investment Solutions (GIS) segment data. This role is responsible for defining and managing internal and external data standards, operationalizing, and managing governance communities, defining, and maintaining governance policies, and developing and overseeing processes to ensure that data are cataloged, defined and this understanding is available segment-wide for all data maintained in the GIS Data Platform. This role builds relationships with leaders and data stewards across the Global Investment Solutions Segment and Carlyle enterprise-wide data team to help manage and maintain data to support organizational goals of increased transparency and data quality.



Responsibilities




Strategy





  • Partner with Chief Data Officer to create and maintain GIS data standards and guidelines that reflect the segment's data strategy and risk tolerance.

  • Partner with GIS Data Stewards and Business SMEs to develop metrics/KPIs to measure the success of data governance activities.

  • Leverage data quality best practices to design and maintain policies, methodologies, guidelines around data quality, profiling, cleansing, including KPI/metrics definitions.

  • Deliver thought leadership for future data governance and management techniques and processes.




Data Governance





  • Leads the Data Steward Council, consisting of resources representing business areas across GIS, in charged with governing data and manage data governance initiatives and projects.

  • Develops, documents, manages, and provides oversight on data governance and data management policies, processes, standards, and procedures.

  • Matures the data governance program, securing engagement and buy in for enterprise-wide data stewardship and ownership communities.

  • Collaborate with Carlyle's data privacy and cyber security teams to ensure our data policies comply with data privacy and security requirements.

  • Works closely with GTS and Carlyle's Information Privacy & Security teams to ensure the data governance framework and management of data assets is aligned with GIS Tech architecture vision and relevant privacy and security laws, regulations, and policies.

  • Develops and institutes GIS data access policies and procedures.

  • Work with business and technology teams to implement the Data Catalog, MDM and Data Quality tools.

  • Support the education of data management best practices across GIS, including provide training and education on data governance to all users.




Data Quality





  • Define the scope and process to assess data quality, including identifying critical data, business rules, and data patterns.

  • Craft and perform an initial data quality assessment of critical data, identifying and prioritizing issues, and performing root cause analyses of issues.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize and manage data quality initiatives based on business impact.

  • Develop preventative and corrective actions to improve data quality and validation actions that can be implemented.

  • Manage and enforce data quality initiatives and standards, including data acquisition, enhancement, cleansing, and updating within and across application platforms.

  • Measure and monitor the quality of critical data, reporting on data quality levels and findings. Oversees efforts to improve data quality.

  • Developing and implementing data quality metrics, KPIs, and best practices.

  • Design and implement data quality dashboards and exception reports, performing analysis to identify trends in data quality issues, perform root-cause analysis, establish data quality themes, and determine course(s) of action, creating action plans to resolve open items.

  • Support and work with the business, data stewards, data custodians to remediate data quality exceptions.

  • Utilizing Scrum methodology to plan and execute data quality projects.




Data Management Operations





  • Oversees data governance processes that ensure metadata stay up-to-date and accurate.

  • Measure the adoption of data governance policies and business value of data quality improvement; conduct data quality assessments and implement measures to improve data accuracy, completeness, and consistency for business-critical data.

  • Applies knowledge of systems, data, and customer requirements to uncover problems and recommends solutions.

  • Accountable for maintaining standard terms and definitions for common data fields within the GIS segment.

  • Partners with Data Stewards, Data Custodians as well as DG Leads to ensure consistent definitions and classification for the data as well as the determining appropriate purpose of each instance.




Qualifications




Education & Certificates





  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Concentration in Finance, Computer Science, Information Technology, Accounting Information Systems, or related field, strongly preferred.




Professional Experience





  • While structured learning and coaching will be provided, the following qualifications are recommended:

  • Minimum of 7 years of overall professional experience, required.

  • 3 years of related work experience to include data modeling and governance, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.

  • Solid data analysis ability to explore data and aware of current data analytics trends and technology.

  • Strong requirements gathering, program & project management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Knowledge of dashboards and data visualization tools.

  • Knowledge of data management and governance principles

  • Experience with implementing DG catalog

  • Good knowledge of private equity/asset management business, and a deep, tactical way of thinking.

  • Ability to translate strategic directions and business objectives into team goals.

  • Experience running high-impact initiatives within the organization.

  • Effective delegator with proven management of cross-functional teams without direct supervision

  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and can differentiate between distractions and the roadblocks that can impact goals.

  • Ability to drive consensus among stakeholders, manage expectations, and build strong relationships.
