Position: Lead Mobile Maintenance Mechanic

Reports to: Maintenance Superintendent

Shift: Day

What you'll be contributing:

The Mobile Lead Mechanic diagnoses and fixes mechanical and electrical issues in mobile equipment and combustion engine systems. This position manages Mobile Maintenance, guides and mentors Mobile Mechanics, and is the primary contact in the supervisor's absence.


  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.

  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Performs welding and fabrication and adheres to safety policies and procedures.

  • Manages comprehensive and routine maintenance for mobile equipment and collaborates with the supervisor to address discrepancies.

  • Complies with all Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and internal company policies.

  • Upholds cleanliness and organizational standards in the mobile department and truck shop.

  • Supervises contractor work to ensure quality and compliance.

  • Allocates Work Orders (WOs) based on urgency and operational requirements and provides detailed closures of WOs for reference.

  • Designs and executes Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedules for all mobile machinery, including creating job plans.

  • Uses computer systems to perform maintenance best practices.

  • Monitors and plans for PM needs, including tracking cycles and managing filter inventories.

  • Ensures adherence to key cabinet usage policies.

  • Develop and deliver training materials for mobile maintenance.

  • Provides plant-wide training on departmental procedures and heavy equipment operation.

To succeed in this position, you will need:


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience cutting, welding, and fabricating

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience performing maintenance on large mobile equipment, CAT Maintenance, or related experience

  • High school graduation or equivalent is required.

  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.

  • Valid driver's license required, commerical driver's license preferred but not required

  • Ability to diagnose and repair mobile equipment, including diesel/gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, and heating and air conditioning systems

  • Knowledge of cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment

  • Familiarity with tires, filters, lubricants, refrigerants, acids, cleaning, and protective chemicals used in mobile equipment repair

  • Proficient in English written, verbal communication, and listening

  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic

  • Ability to read and understand operator, parts, and repair manuals

  • Ability to read and understand electrical systems, hydraulics, and schematics

  • Ability to work irregular shifts, workdays, nights, and weekends as required

  • Application of all safety rules and regulations as set forth by MSHA and Company policies/procedures, including the Hazard Communication Program

  • Ability to use general office equipment such as a computer, fax, and copier

  • Willingness to learn, training will be provided.

What to expect in a cement environment:

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
