Valparaiso University invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor, in the Department of History. Valparaiso University ("Valpo"), a community of learning grounded in the Lutheran tradition of scholarship, freedom, and faith, prepares students to lead and serve both church and society. Located one hour southeast of Chicago on a 310-acre campus, Valpo is a comprehensive university with an enrollment of nearly 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Valpo is consistently recognized as one of the best private universities in the Midwest and is located in Valparaiso, Indiana, a county seat of 33,000 residents with high-quality schools and an active social community.

This two-year position begins in August 2024. We encourage candidates with expertise in world history, specialization in Asia, Africa, or the Middle East preferred. Teaching responsibilities will include three or four classes a semester, including our CORE seminar for first-year students. Ideally, individuals will have an earned doctorate in an area of history by the position start date, but we will consider ABD applicants. The College of Arts & Sciences will provide professional development support for this visiting appointment to attend a disciplinary conference in 2024-2025.
