UTHealth Houston is the most comprehensive academic health center in the UT System and the U.S. Gulf Coast region. This year the Department is projected to provide care for approximately 75,000 patients through the MH emergency department and almost 88,000 patients at LBJ. In addition, our hospitalist service cared for 80,000 patient encounters across five locations in Fiscal Year 2023. The department employs 92 faculty, 51 Staff Physicians, and 110 Advanced Practice Providers who are responsible for staffing Adult and Pediatric EM, as well as Adult and Pediatric Hospitalist services at our two primary teaching hospitals and four community hospitals.

The department has an annual operating budget of $64M, including $13M in clinical revenue. The department offers a vibrant and diverse working environment characterized by an atmosphere of supportive, interdisciplinary collaboration. Our Emergency Medicine residency program, celebrating its thirtieth year, is one of the larger EM residency programs in the US. The department also supports seven clinical fellowships as well as one third-year and three fourth-year medical student electives.
