Overview

Sev1Tech is seeking a Systems Engineer to support emerging technology evaluations for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). The Systems Engineer is a general technologist able to support the idenfication and evaluation of technologies to deliver on functional and business requirements aligned with enterprise architecture and security standards.

Providing technical support for the development, engineering, interfacing, integration, and testing of specific technology solutions to include requirements elicitation, analysis, conducting systems requirements reviews, developing concepts of operation and interface standards, developing system architectures, and performing technical/non-technical assessments.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Systems Engineer plays a key role in the Enterprise Architecture team with primary focus on the Emergency Communicstions Division assigned portfolio.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and assess existing systems and infrastructure.
  • Design comprehensive migration plans tailored to specific platform requirements and business needs.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate cloud service providers and migration tools based on technical capabilities and cost considerations.
  • Develop scripts, automation tools, and methodologies to streamline migration processes and ensure data integrity.
  • Perform pre-migration assessments, including workload analysis, dependency mapping, and risk assessment.
  • Execute migration activities according to established timelines, closely monitoring progress and addressing any issues or deviations.
  • Conduct post-migration validation to verify system functionality, performance, and security compliance.
  • Document migration processes, configurations, and best practices for knowledge sharing and future reference.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams during the migration process, including troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to cloud migration and system integration.


Responsibilities

Having a broad technical background spanning the full information technology landscape. The ability to clearly articulate technical messages for a variety of audiences, both through written and verbal means, will be a critical skill necessary for the success in this position.

  • BA/BS or 3+ years of prior relevant experience or 7 years with no BA/BS
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience supporting enterprise architecture and evaluating technologies for enterprise acceptance.
  • Proven experience in system administration, infrastructure management, or cloud engineering, with a focus on migration projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems, as well as various Database Management Systems (DBMS).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including proficiency in cloud migration tools and services such as AWS MGN, DMS, and Data Transfer Hub.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Shell scripting) for infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
  • Familiarity with migration methodologies, such as rehosting, replatforming, and refactoring, and their respective benefits and challenges.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to liaise with government, vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Ability to provide proof of US Citizenship and ability to obtain a CBP Public Trust clearance


Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in technology, network and cyber security design, engineering, and operations with emphasis on DHS capabilities.
  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, or similar credentials are a plus.
  • Cloud Architect, DevOps or SysOps Associate or Professional Certification
