Job Description:

H2M Architects + Engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm in Melville, NY seeks an Plumbing/Fire Protection Designer. Working with Engineers in creating, developing, and implementing design standards for the Plumbing/Fire Protection department.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Designing Plumbing & Fire Protection Systems from Inception to Completion of Construction Documents
  • Meet with Clients to Develop Scope
  • Survey of Existing Building Conditions
  • Prepare Reports
  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
  • Participate in design activities geared toward the creation of construction documents for public and private sector projects.
  • Construction administration duties, including RFI response, submittal reviews, and Punchlists.
  • Coordinates with other building disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
  • Implements sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment.
  • Provide Guidance and Support for Junior Engineers
  • Field survey and observation work required for construction activities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Plumbing/Fire Protecting BIM/CAD standards and procedures.
  • Work as an integral part of the MEP Discipline aligned with H2M's mission, vision, and values.
  • Meet utilization goals for billable time assistance to projects.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Successful candidate will have a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience designing wide variety of facilities for commercial, industrial, municipal, educational, laboratory, residential, institutional, and governmental projects.
  • The experience should include all systems associated with Plumbing and Fire Protection.
  • The candidate should be experienced with the survey and recording of existing systems.
  • Knowledge of State codes of the tristate area.
  • Candidate should have good planning, organizational and communications skills.
  • The candidate should be knowledgeable in the design of domestic water, drainage, compressed air, vacuum, and natural gas systems.
  • Candidate shall have an understanding of fire protection design, NFPA and Building Codes, and capable of conducting sprinkler system hydraulic calculations.
  • The ideal candidate will be proficient in AutoCAD and REVIT.

The salary range for this role is $65,000-$85,000.
