Compensation Range

Hourly: $20.45 - $23.80 (Amount based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies.)



About This Job



The Utility Collector is responsible for a variety of tasks with the assigned department in Loss Containment. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, making outbound collection attempts, following up on escalations or other "special handling" tasks. The role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and pivot from task to task.



Essential Functions



  • Maintain information on deceased accounts


  • Review assigned workgroups


  • Act as subject matter expert and assist with new hire training


  • Monitor team voicemail and shared outlook mailbox


  • Move funds using internal systems, such as Universal Maintenance Database


  • Handle escalated calls as needed


  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Credit refunds for charge off and deceased accounts


  • Track deceased dollars within collection management software


  • Maintain SCRA validation and account maintenance


  • Validate agency debt and disputes


  • Review, analyze and fulfill lien release requests


  • Review ChexSystems disputes and update as needed





Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required



  • Strong understanding of collection management software like TSYS, SHAW, DM9, etc.


  • Excellent customer service skills


  • Informal leadership skills with desire and ability to mentor team members


  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality


  • Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities


  • Inquisitive, agile and strong team player with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills


  • Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values


  • Strong level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook





Education & Experience



  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience required


  • 2+ year collections experience required


  • 1+ year skip tracing and/or credit bureau experience required


  • 2+ years post charge-off collections experience preferred


  • Public Notary registration preferred
