The Principal Investigators Ulf Dettmer and Nagendran Ramalingam in the Ann Romney Center
for Neurologic Diseases, Brigham & Women's Hospital, and Harvard Medical School jointly invite
applications from recent graduates for two fully NIH-funded postdoc positions to study the
pathophysiology of alpha-synuclein. The research projects will focus on a) understanding the
physiology of Ser129 phosphorylated alpha-synuclein "pS129" in vivo and b) understanding the
role of pS129 on pathological spreading of alpha-synuclein aggregation in vivo. The ideal
candidate with strong animal work experience will work with novel knock-in mouse models that
have been generated for these projects. Both projects are relevant for Parkinson's disease and
Lewy body dementia.
The projects are built upon two research papers: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41531-023-
00444-w and https://www.embopress.org/doi/full/10.15252/embr.202357145
Candidates must have extensive experience working with mice. Prior experience in survival
surgery or electrophysiology is highly desirable. Only candidates with demonstrated expertise and
publications in molecular biology, biochemistry, imaging, and animal husbandry should apply.
A competitive salary will be provided.
