Arcadis is currently seeking a highly motivated Substation Protection and Control Manager to join our Power Delivery team.

This is a senior technical leadership position within the Power Delivery unit of Arcadis. The position requires candidate to work within a multi-disciplinary team for the design of substation and switchyard protection and control. You will participate in substation protection and relay control design at all stages of project development, including concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility, detail design, procurement and construction, and also in substation asset management/condition studies. The Substation Protection and Control Manager will have the opportunity to design substation protection and control projects for electric utilities at voltages from 12kV up to 500kV. This is an exciting and growing field in the power systems industry and allows candidates to get exposure to how the power generation such as that of renewable energy ties into the electric system. Candidates will be expected to use knowledge of digital logic design, AC and DC circuits to design substation electrical projects.

Role accountabilities:

This position is accountable to provide design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all of Arcadis's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control. The incumbent will also work closely with other Power Delivery departments, including the Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, RTU/SCADA/Automation, Distribution and EV Technology and the Renewables teams, as well as with other Arcadis divisions on related Substation Protection and Control and power sector master plans.

You will also coordinate design activities, with design activities undertaken by other engineering disciplines, to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. You may take on project management roles, coordinating the activities of substation electrical, RTU/SCADA/Telecom, civil, structural and other engineering and non-engineering disciplines. Substation Protection and Control Manager will also lead/participate in the preparation of project estimates, engineering estimates and proposals, and client engagement and business development activities.

• Manage and grow Substation Protection and Control team and serve as a mentor to staff. You will also lead substation protection and control design on large/complex projects and perform quality reviews.
• Responsible for design of protection schemes for all kinds of T&D substations, Industrial, Solar and Wind, BESS applications including one-lines, three-lines, AC / DC schematics, and relay settings.
• Review/supervise power system load flow studies, fault studies, relay setting coordination, transient studies, drawings, specifications, and perform condition assessments and feasibility studies.
• Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers, and control design staff in order to fully develop system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems. Work with team to meet project specifications, cost control, and schedule objectives.
• Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
• Preparation of functional specifications for facility requirements related to different system development portfolios, for purposes of developing preliminary designs and obtaining estimates for the associated facilities. Maintaining project documentation with respect to substation design and construction including completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
• Undertake thought leadership activities (e.g. speaker at conference, panelist, technical articles, whitepapers, etc.) and promote Arcadis's know-how in the Power and T&D sector in the region. Maintaining close coordination with other relevant Arcadis Business Units and Practices for cross selling and cross staffing opportunities.

Additionally, this position may involve travel of up to 25% to client sites and customer meetings, both within North America and potentially internationally.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering.
• A minimum of 15 years of experience in direct Substation Protection and Control design engineering in Power and Utility industry.
• PE License.
• Familiarity with utility industry standards and practices to include NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI, and have advanced knowledge of Substation Protection and Control design practices related to development and relevant supporting calculations.
• Experience in system protection schemes and relay and control engineering, relay selection, primary equipment interface requirements, communication systems and standards practice for transmission, substation and distribution, and generation system for both AIS and GIS substations.
