Job Description:

Lynden Air Cargo is seeking a skilled and experienced Technical Writer to join our team. This person will play a crucial role in translating complex aviation technical information into easily understandable content. Our ideal candidate has an extreme attention to detail, can work independently, as well as analyze aviation regulations. A background in aviation is strongly preferred.

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are:


  • Performs all assigned work in accordance with established policies and procedures as governed by Lynden Air Cargo's Employee Handbook, company procedures and applicable CFR's.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts within the company to gather information and ensure accuracy and completeness of technical content.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including pilots, mechanics, loadmasters, engineers, safety/HR personnel, and department managers, to gather information and validate technical content.

  • Research and analyze technical data, specifications, and engineering drawings to gather information for documentation production.

  • Organize and structure complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly formats that meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, and adhere to company guidelines, style guides, and document templates.

  • Create and update technical documentation, including user manuals, operating procedures, maintenance instructions, training programs, and specifications for aviation systems, components, and equipment. Proofreads for grammatical errors, content consistency and flow. Responsible for clarity and accuracy of final copy.

  • Manage documentation projects, including planning, scheduling, meeting deadlines, and gaining regulatory acceptance.

  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes relevant to the aviation field.

  • Convert publications into currently accepted standards, including but not limited to DOCX, PDF, XML, HTML, and acquire training as necessary to support these evolving systems.

  • Monitors industry advances and trends with emphasis on digital data technology to assure early incorporation of product improvements, practices, and standardization in regard to technical publications eg. S1000D, ATA iSpec 2200, Spec2000.

  • Supports the Technical Operations department with special projects as needed, working independently and within a team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects. 

  • Provides intradepartmental support for technical issues with software operation.

  • Participates in cross-training with the Technical Operations Specialist. Provides support to the Technical Operations Specialist as required.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Technical Operations Manager.

The things LAC would need from you are:


  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with L382 aircraft or aviation background preferred.

  • Advanced working knowledge in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and Adobe Acrobat as it pertains to technical writing, data compilation and analysis is required. Experience in MS Teams and iOS devices is a plus. Must be able to effectively navigate computer systems, cloud-based systems and data management.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, vendors, FAA inspectors and the general public.

  • Ability to type and to use all types of office equipment, including, but not limited to keyboard, 10-key, PC, telephone, printers, copiers, and fax machines. Experience with scanning equipment and content management systems preferred. Possession of exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task is required; possess skills to work independently. Knowledge of Trax maintenance software preferred.

This position has limited provisions for optional hybrid work, where appropriate. When on-site, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
