Summary of Position:

This position provides leadership for the EHS&S programs and systems typically at the company’s moderately complex locations. The position ensures each facility is strategically aligned and operating in conformance with K-C EHS&S Standards and in compliance with local legal requirements. Through influence without authority and/or direct reporting relationships, the position works collaboratively to identify and direct appropriate process and systems that elevate site program maturity, effectively manage risks and deliver continuous improvement in EHS&S results.  Site EHS&S Leads may have local staff to assist in delivering on accountabilities and typically report to Mill/Site Managers.

Scope


  • Ability to interpret, understand and monitor/manage implications of relevant legal requirements applicable to site activities and operations.

  • Capable of identifying EHS&S hazards and assessing associated risks

  • Maintain proficiency in relevant EHS&S topics, especially with regard to topics addressed by K-C EHS&S Performance Standards and associated operation-specific risks.

  • Experience participating in incident investigations and associated causal analyses.

  • Capable of developing and delivering training across EHS&S topics relevant to moderately complex operations

  • Ability to execute routine checks/self-assessments of the site EHS&S program maturity and performance (i.e., status of compliance and risk management considering local legal requirements and K-C Performance and Management Standards) for moderately complex operations.

  • Relevant leadership skills related to taking accountability; positive role modeling; demonstrating commitment.

  • Ability to leverage data, digital systems/platforms to improve decision-making and problem-solving; confident addressing technological advancements (e.g., automation) as relevant to tasks/duties of the role.

  • Project management and management of change capabilities

  • Approaches and role models a lean mindset, where continuous improvement, value to the “customer” and a “go to where the work happens” attitude is given the utmost focus

  • Collaboration and relationship-building skills

Key Customers

Internal to Mill: Front line employees, Mill Management, Leadership Team, Logistics, Engineering Teams 

Internal to Region: Planning, Converting Mills and Customers, Global Nonwovens (GNW) Supply Chain Teams and Management, other Kimberly-Clark Facilities

Accountabilities and Responsibilities


  • Assess and verify site complies with K-C and regulatory controls and requirements related to EHS&S

  • Functional owner Facilitates implementation of the site’s EHS&S Management System

  • Identify EHS&S aspects, hazards, emerging requirements, etc. to verify they are managed to acceptable levels of risk or impact.

  • Setting EHS&S objectives and evaluating the effectiveness of performance

  • Lead the facility’s effort to elevate EHS&S program maturity.

  • Effectively implements Global and Region/BU EHS&S strategies.

  • Support EHS&S event investigations to ensure root cause evaluations are conducted and verify effective corrective/preventative actions are implemented.

  • Ensure all employees complete appropriate EHS&S orientation and training.

  • Ensure adherence of contractors to relevant K-C standards and requirements

  • Capable of using digital systems/platforms to conduct analysis of EHS&S data to provide insights/recommending improvement actions as needed.

  • Support Health Services and emergency response efforts


  • Lead the team that implements site-wide safety and environmental initiatives which will include such programs as, hazardous energy control, machine safeguarding, ergonomics and other programs as required to reach safety objectives.

  • Identify, evaluate and coordinate implementation of new methods and approaches to accelerate safety and environmental improvement at the Berkeley Mill.

  • Contribute to an environment in which all team members are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve their individual/team contributions in order to achieve desired business results.

  • Lead organizational change, build relationships, and drive performance.

  • Use effective business communication with all stakeholders, corporate support teams, employees and external contacts and customers.

Required


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the environmental, safety, health, or sustainability or similar science/engineering in a related field

  • 3 plus years of experience in EHS&S that involved managing legal compliance, hazards/risks and conformance with company standards.

  • Qualifications required by local regulatory authorities if any

  • 1 plus year of experience in a leadership, management or supervisory role

  • Strong communications, interpersonal skills with ability to engage at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to influence behaviors/outcomes w/o direct authority.

Desired

  • Pursuing or possessing relevant Professional Certifications (e.g., PE, CIH, CSP, HMM, NEBOSH, etc.)
  • Previous experience with a consumer products organization

Working Conditions


  •  Normal scheduled hours will vary based on the need to support a 24/7 Operation.

  • Flexibility to travel up to 10% for benchmarking and best practice sharing across North America.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
