Job Description:

The Vice President of Technology and Product Management directs and coordinates activities of the Engineering staff, formulates and administers organization budgets and policies, and establishes and executes the technology and product strategy for the business unit.

This position reports directly to the Vice President, Business Unit Manager and is on site at the Wilmington MA location.

Key Responsibilities


  • Achieve the strategic objectives of the business for near-term and long-term growth, new product development. Drive technology insertion and manage product lifecycle and profitability.
  • Oversees engineering sales and expense budgets and ensures resources are allocated to support multiple customer projects and cross-functional business objectives.
  • Directly supervises engineering directors, managers and employees, including reports in India and Mexico. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. Oversees and develops career and leadership growth plans for employees and establishes succession planning for engineering team.
  • Creation and management of the company's strategic plan and technology and product roadmaps.
  • Participates in sales process to understand technical needs of the customer, and the business's ability to satisfy specified needs. Has an active role in creating and approving technical proposals as an essential role in new business development, including customer visits as required. Participates in bid reviews.
  • Works with program management team to ensure designs meet customer requirements. Makes sure that adequate testing and test plans are developed; and that work is completed on time. Owns and improves design review and tollgate process.
  • Drives and supports continuous improvement activities including, but not limited to OPEX, VA/VE and PPV .
  • Establishes and executes digital strategy for the department, including selection and evaluation of new digital tools, workflows, and other technologies.
  • Supports development and execution of capital plan for the business unit, particularly as related to critical engineering and product development requirements.
  • Analyzes and resolves business related challenges and assists employees in problem solving activities.
  • Regularly participates in corporate, division, business unit and departmental reviews and meetings including Strategic Planning, Budget, New Product Development and Operating Reviews. Provides input and status on engineering activities that are key to the business.
  • Willing and able to travel in support of corporate engagements, design reviews, customer and supplier meetings, manufacturing and quality reviews, and sales related activities including industry trade shows.

Requirements and Considerations


  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in mechanical or electrical engineering; and fifteen years plus industry-related progressive engineering management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Strong business and financial acumen required to manage product line performance and execution of budgeting and financial reporting requirements with finance. P&L and product line management experience desired.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in one-on-one and group situations with executive leadership, co-workers, and employees; Gives clear and consistent feedback, listens to others and responds well to questions.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; and work within deadlines.
  • Uses Kaizen and other tools to facilitate and drive continuous improvement activities.
