Position Summary

As a Solar Field Survey Technician I at Terrasmart, you will be working outdoors in different locations supporting the construction of large-scale ground mounted solar developments. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years' experience performing stakeout with GPS and Robotic Total Stations. Familiarity with Trimble products is preferred. This position requires minimal experience, so candidates with little to no survey experience are encouraged to apply.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Duties)


  • Conduct daily equipment inspections, perform preventative maintenance, and operate all vehicles and equipment within safe limits as set by manufacturers recommendation or local law to minimize the risk of injury or property damage.
  • Attend all pre-shift safety and production meetings according to schedule, participate in daily team stretching exercise, and support end of day site clean-up.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of all Survey Staff and temporary laborers working on assigned field projects, facilitates weekly on-site safety meeting ("toolbox talk") for field assistants, collects daily safety paperwork from field assistants (JSAs).
  • Ensures assigned field projects and the services delivered to the client adhere to Company quality standards.
  • Coordinate with Logistics Manager, Drafting Manager, and Survey Manager regarding job schedule, client interfacing, necessary project digital files, travel arrangements, and material delivery on assigned field projects.
  • Interfaces with clients' field representatives to coordinate site layout, job schedule, safety requirements, site flow, material delivery and laydown areas.
  • Responsible for site setup, control recovery and GPS calibration for assigned field projects.
  • Responsible for providing accurate stake out points (within /- .02 usft for both N/S and E/W coordinate) and accurately set leg elevations (within /- .02 usft for Cut/Fill value) as per design file.
  • Extensive travel from worksite to worksite across assigned region and on occasion across the country.
  • Demonstrate positive team behavior that contributes to efficiency, productivity, safety, and quality.
  • May operate remote controlled tracked vehicles.
  • Complete all required or directed training, certification, licensing, and other learning and development as assigned.
  • Abide by all Federal, State, and local laws; uphold and maintain accountability to all Company policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

1 Years of Experience as a Survey Technician preferred

Technical Skills
Familiarity of tablet or iPhone technology, Google Earth, blueprint reading

Licenses / Certifications
OSHA 10

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work outdoors in uncovered areas exposed to varying elements, allergens, weather conditions, temperatures, and wildlife.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend, or twisting at the waist, and walk on uneven, graded, or slippery ground condition.
  • Able to stand to for up to 10 hours per day.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs. unassisted.
  • Able to be routinely exposed to loud noises (100 dB).
  • Able to work in sustained extreme temperatures (hot and cold).
  • Able to communicate effectively with coworkers and managers.
