BCForward is currently looking for Inside/Outside Research Worker located at Johnston, IA 50131.

Estimated Start Date: 5/13/2024
Pay Rate: $23.00/hr.
Shift: Day (8am-5pm)



Job Description:

Seasonal Role - Could work Inside or Outside during the summer
Critical skills:



  • Must be detail orientated

  • Basic computer knowledge & navigational skills

  • Have a basic understanding of written and spoken English preferred

  • Communicate effectively with supervisor.

  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures

  • Ability to follow safety procedures


Shall supply:



  • All required personal protective equipment


Outside Research Worker (Summer)

Duties & Responsibilities (may include any or all of the following):



  • Harvest plant material according to defined protocol

  • Research Plot Maintenance

  • Weighing and Grinding material in a lab setting

  • Field Data Collection

  • General Housekeeping


Expectations of employment:



  • Able to complete repetitive tasks for long periods of time

  • Be self-motivated and possess a positive attitude

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Willingness to travel to local field (transportation is provided)

  • Willingness to work weekends during peak times (July)

  • Have schedule availability (Must be able to work from early morning until the evening)

  • Ability to work around soybeans, corn, pollen, and dust for long periods of time

  • Ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions

  • Work well with team members

  • Ability to walk/stand/crouch for several hours at a time

  • Need to be able and willing to walk on uneven ground

  • Workers are expected to be on time


Other preferred skills:



  • Display a competency to perform accurate work in a repetitive motion environment


Description:


Assist in plant data collection and sensor work. This position will present opportunities to develop a strong understanding of field research along with expanding knowledge of plant physiology and environmental measurements.

The position will be available starting mid-May and will last through mid-August, with the possibility of extending into the fall. Applicants should plan on working about 40 hours a week with additional hours possible during peak times. Work conditions may be hot, humid and muddy. Training will be provided

Research workers will be responsible for duties such as:



  • Detailed data collection and data management in outside environments

  • Deploying and maintaining sensors in field

  • Collecting data from sensors

  • Collecting plant samples from field

  • Weeding fields and staking research plots

  • Some lab work associated with ag research

  • Assisting with Greenhouse experiments

  • Miscellaneous tasks as needed

Applicants minimum age requirement shall be 18 years or older. Looking for people who are currently enrolled or recently graduated from postsecondary education. Applicants must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs. Applicant will also need a valid drivers license.

Individual must display good communication skills, a high degree of self motivation and work well independently with minimal supervision, as well as working with a team. Applicant must be willing to work outside for extended periods of time. The applicant must be able to carry out processes with minimal supervision, and in a safe and responsible way. Individual must show up to work consistently on a daily basis, and work well in a team environment.
