Job Description:

The Communications and Equity Coordinator is an integral member of the NEW Health team, working to facilitate the Health Center's communications and diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) programs and initiatives. The Communications and Equity coordinator's objectives are to manage communications with internal and external stakeholders across all aspects of NEW Health including marketing and educational materials and social media content. The coordinator will liaison with NEW Health leadership and MGB departments to identify and disseminate opportunities for implementing policies and creating an environment that is more inclusive and consistent for staff and patients. The candidate will establish and maintain solid working relationships with all levels of management and employees and work to address diversity and equity matters strategically and proactively with a goal creating a more inclusive workplace and environment of care for our patients. Candidates must have experience in this space as well as demonstrating a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Communications:


  • Lead the development and oversight of:

    • NEW Health's website, online presence, social media, and marketing strategies.

    • Communications supporting health center programs and initiatives.



  • Work with the Public Affairs Coordinator and Public Relations consultant to:

    • Create innovative informative content, press releases, articles, and media opportunities.

    • Update website

    • Deliver content through the various media channels.

    • Plan and manage the design, content, and production of all print and digital marketing materials.



  • Oversee health center brand recognition.

  • Provide excellent strategic communications guidance to NEW Health leadership to engage the public's interest in NEW Health's programs and service offerings.

  • Collaborate with all internal teams to create standardized and compelling communications for internal and external dissemination.

  • Oversee regular staff communications as needed including monthly staff electronic newsletter.

  • Respond to communications in a timely manner.

  • Serve as Health Center patient advocate.

  • Manage patient complaints and grievances.



Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:


  • Serve as the chair of the DEI committee and represent the Health Center in DEI programs and initiatives.

  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and logistics of regular DEI events, trainings, and meetings with a focus on developing a comprehensive training pathway on anti-racism and structural equity, which will provide staff consistent and continuous training opportunities, tailored to their responsibilities that support and challenge learners to develop and apply equity-based practices.

  • Work to educate administrative leadership on the benefits of creating a diverse workforce and the value of verifying race and ethnicity of staff in order to monitor retention and advancement.

  • Craft and execute internal and external DEI communications.

  • Keep abreast of best practices and current trends in diversity and inclusion recruitment and bring the knowledge to inform recruitment activities at NEW Health.

  • Provide data-related support and help report progress toward DEI strategy goals.

  • Work with the clinical teams in identifying health disparities and helping identify activities for our provider staff to provide care in a more equitable manner and break down barriers to care.

Qualifications


  • B.A./B.S. and 5+ years of related experience required with at least one year of experience with professional development, diversity and/or equity.

  • Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver clear, concise, effective, and accurate messaging on a wide variety of topics for broad audiences.

  • The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and leadership abilities.

  • Can be flexible and work comfortably both independently, and as part of a team with other Health Center and external stakeholders.

  • Strong familiarity with best practices for social media accounts.

  • Demonstrated success developing DEI strategic communications plans.

  • Excellent analytical and time-management skills.

  • Strong project management skills with ability to supervise multiple projects.

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to work nonstandard hours, attend occasional events in the evening and on weekends, and travel to off-site events as necessary.

  • Interest in the development of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially within a healthcare environment.

  • Bilingual or multicultural perspectives are a strong plus.

  • Ability to work well with staff across and at all levels withing the organization.

  • Comfortable challenging the status quo and bringing forward creative solutions.

  • Actively seek and incorporate ideas/feedback from others.

  • Enthusiastic and focused on creating a community within marginalized communities including Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), first-gen, LGBTQIA, and disability communities.

  • Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information.

  • Ability to think creatively, both in terms of problem-solving and program planning/execution.
