Zingermans Candy Store Retail Sales, Part Time

Zingermans Candy Store is a part of Zingermans Candy Manufactory/Zingermans Coffee Company, maker of hand-made, small batch confections. Serving our retail customers from our location inside Zingermans Coffee Cos busy cafe on Zingermans Southside in Ann Arbor, we sell confections that we make ourselves as well as those we carefully curate from other national and international producers. We provide extensive and ongoing education opportunities for staff within the business and industry. Compensation: $14.50/hr, $0.50 raise with completion of orientation passport and $0.50/hr raise after 1 year

Performance Expectations - Essential Functions:
Greets and assists all guests in the store or on the phone, giving great service and going the extra mile every timeShares the Zingermans experience with our guests by regularly making guests feel like they were the best part of their dayActively sells products using Zingermans sales methodsProactively adds to their knowledge of our products and shares that knowledge with guestsCompletes Training Passports within stated time frames and takes responsibility for their own learning.Maintains displays of products using the Zingerman's and Candy Manufactory merchandising guidelinesUses cash register and gift card app to complete guest purchases according to SOPReads and responds to email regularlyFollows and completes all daily, weekly, etc. tasks on checklistsWrites and reads brief daily shift notesKeeps workspaces tidy and clean - including sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces, cleaning glass, etc.Keeps supplies, materials, and tools organized and stocked.Completes side work as needed and directed.Follows all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines when using equipment and handling products, including all Covid protocols if applicablePositively responds to requests for assistance from co-workers, supervisors, managers and guestsTakes initiative to help any area of the Candy Manufactory and Coffee Co. if possibleActively finds work to do during any slow timesParticipates in weekly meetings to stay up to date with the on-goings of the businessFollows all Zingerman's and Candy Manufactory recipes and SOPs (ex. service, customer complaints, receiving orders, cash handling, etc.)Participates in writing SOPs as neededUpholds all Zingerman's Guiding Principles and the Mission Statement

Other Functions:
Conducts inventory as assignedCross-training opportunities in other areas of the Candy Manufactory and Coffee Co.Encouraged to attend and participate in Zingerman's events and learnings

Physical Demands
Must be able to remain upright for up to a 6-8 hour shiftMust be able to relocate up to 30 pounds on occasionMust be able to reach, bend, grasp, kneel, use a step ladder

The Success Patterns for this position are:
Has at least 1 year of experience working in retail sales or customer serviceExperience working with specialty foods, and chocolate and confections knowledge are a plusExcellent communication skills in person & over the phoneHas basic math and cash handling skillsGood computer literacy, with experience with Square and Drive preferredConsistent availability preferred, additional availability October through December strongly preferredOnce trained, comfortable being the sole person working in the storePunctual and self-motivated
