Job Title: Plant Facilities Technician

Department: 9050 - Acton Manufacturing Facilities

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Overview:

Our highly automated manufacturing facility in Acton showcases talented professionals, world-class technologies, and innovative solutions that "power" the quality and performance of Insulet Corporation's unique drug delivery devices. The facilities maintenance technician will monitor and maintain the equipment and buildings that support our new corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility in Acton MA.

Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ: PODD) is an innovative medical device company dedicated to making the lives of people with diabetes easier. Through its OmniPod Insulin Management System, Insulet seeks to expand the use of insulin pump therapy among people with insulin-dependent diabetes. Insulet's Delivery Systems business also partners with global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to tailor the OmniPod technology platform for the delivery of subcutaneous drugs across multiple therapeutic areas.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be required to maintain a safe environment for our people and visitors at the Acton site. The reliability of the site infrastructure is critical to our manufacturing operations and corporate headquarters. The facility technician will be expected to help develop and follow rigorous maintenance plans, monitoring strategies, and continuous improvement activities to manage our assets and ensure reliability.

Facilities work on a 12-hour shift with 4 shifts running 24/7, this position supports the night shift which is 6 pm-6:30 am. Operation business needs may necessitate the need to adjust shift start and end times. Business needs may also require working occasional weekends, holidays, and overtime to execute planned downtime activities.


  • Daily direction setting with facilities manager.

  • Maintain a cGMP compliant environment and operate within FDA guidelines for 21CFR820 manufacturing.

  • Diagnose and repair breakdowns, execute preventative maintenance tasks, and manage contractors to meet all standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. These tasks must be completed under minimal supervision.

  • Schedule and Manage 3rd party vendors and contractors used for maintenance.

  • Manage pest control contractors and clean room cleaning contractors, verify they are following established procedures.

  • Follow all policies and procedures including safety and quality standards.

  • Monitor systems performance via our BMS software to anticipate issues and respond quickly to alarms and warnings.

  • Diagnose and repair HVAC equipment, air compressors, minor electrical issues, piping systems, pumps, motors, etc.

  • Conduct planned inspections of ladders, fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, AED stations, spill containment kits, as well as first responder and first aid kits.

  • Develop maintenance plans including work instructions and schedules in SAP.

  • Perform accident investigations per OSHA regulations.

  • Utilize our Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP) for all planned and unplanned work, maintain data integrity and document all work.

  • Execute work orders through SAP for internal and external resources.

  • Support contracted cleaning, landscaping, and snow removal services.

  • Miscellaneous duties include, but are not limited to, furniture moves, basic electrical work, basic plumbing work, painting, cleaning, carpentry, pest control.

  • Plant assets include first aid and AED stations, HVAC equipment, HW boilers, steam boilers, air compressors, air dryers, chillers, cooling towers, and all auxiliary equipment associated with these systems.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Requirements:


  • High School diploma or GED

  • 3+ years of experience in facilities support role.

  • Hands on maintenance experience with at least 3 of the following types of equipment. Roof top units (Air handlers), Boilers, Chillers, Air Compressors, Desiccant air dryers, Cooling Towers, Pumps, Motors, Valves

  • Experience reading and understanding P&ID drawings, electrical prints, and construction drawings.

  • Familiar with electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, and general construction

  • Proficient at troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues.

  • Computer skills, Windows, MS Word, Excel, Outlook

Preferred Skills and Competencies:


  • Certification(s) in specific equipment maintenance and diagnostics

  • 3+ years of experience in a GMP manufacturing facility

  • Experience in the medical device industry

  • Maintenance planning and scheduling experience including creation of PM plans and work instructions.

  • Experience using CMMS

  • Effective communication

  • Self-starter capable of dealing with a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Flexibility, the facilities technician will be asked to perform a wide variety of tasks.

Physical Requirements (if applicable):


  • Required to push and pull.

  • Ability to lift to 50lbs occasionally, 5-20lbs frequently.

  • Role requires considerable walking, standing, working in tight spaces, climbing ladders, stairs and kneeling on hard surfaces, and the operation of powered industrial trucks (forklifts).

  • Required to work in all weather conditions including rain, snow, sleet, wind, and extreme weather temperatures that fluctuate between high sweltering heat and freezing cold.

Additional Information:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $25.82 - $38.80. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
